Sorry that Irene was cruel to you Faygo.
We usually go to Cherokee once a year, in July, while we are up in the mountains for a summer break from Florida. I agree, I do not like the VP availability there, and have told them so. They did add a Seven Star lounge with their latest renovations, so that is nice. Also, the new Tower has some magnificent suites, which we were able to stay in this past July. I told our host that, if he wanted me to make any additional trips up there, they would have to add some decent VP.

VP Fans,
I will be at Harrah's Cherokee this Friday evening. I am confused by the advice above on Shamrock Sevens to not hold a 7 'kicker'. Sevens and a joker are wild, right? Is a hand like 6667 or 666J (J = joker) considered to be 4 6's? Is this 7 considered to be a 'kicker' or is a 'kicker' only 66667? If dealt 667 why wouldn't I hold 667 vs,66? What am I missing here? Do I understand correctly that 66777 or 6677J pay more than 66677? Do each of these pay at the 5oak rate but the hand with 777 pays a bonus?
On another topic, is there still a Paula Dean's restaurant and is it any good?
A long shot - anybody else going to be there this Friday (9/23)?

Paula Dean's resturant is still there. JWS on page two of this thread highly recommended the Chicken Pot Pie.
Good Luck!

If I am not mistaken, the 7s are not wild but you do get a bonus if you get 3 of them.

I visited Cherokee Harrah's (CH) last Friday. Here are some comments.
Video Poker
In regard to CH's signature Shamrock 7's game, lblmhgo is right, the 7's are not wild. Since 5oak is the highest paying hand, there must be at least one wild card. I never saw it. Neither did I get three 7's so am not sure how the bonus works.
Most of the newer VP machines with JoB or DDB are 6-5. I did find some older 9-6 machines nearby.
The VP machines are distributed among the slots, so I might have missed some, but I did not see a single multi-line game, let alone any STP or Ult X.
Some of the newer games have the ability to change the bet after each hand. There is a fixed coin, but you can choose any multiple, for example $2.00 per hand on a $0.25 coin. This is a nice feature, but it does change the pay table in sme cases.
Also on the newer machines, there is a double-or-nothing opportunity after each paying hand. I found it annoying after a while.
Other Comments
There is a lot of construction, mostly visible outside. Inside it is very nice. There are very few restrooms in the Casino and these are hard to find. Don't wait too long before you start looking.
The blackjack tables have live dealers, real chips, but all virtual cards. I've never seen this combination before.
All in all, there are some clever new games, but the fundamentals are eroding. It is a new experience.

The vpfree2 database shows they have NSUD in $5 machines if you can stomach that.

Just got back from here and they do have two 25 cent 3-5 hand machines and two 5 cent 3-5 hand machines. other than that all single hand. Pay tables and play SUCK!!!! Worse I have ever experienced.... Did see alot of slot winners though. But most were playing about $10 a hand....

I was just at Harrahs Cherokee the middle part of September. My game of choice is Double Double Bonus Poker. From what I found they have no full pay machines. The best paytable is by the old Fresh Market Buffet where DDB paytable is 9/5. For the most part the rest of the machines paytable is 8/5. Stay away from the bar top machines because all of those paytables are the worst on the market. Most 6/5. I didn't play any Jacks or Better because the paytables were HORRIBLE!!!!! Most machines set at 6/5, the only ones that had higher paytables were also by the old buffet, 8/5. No competition so paytables are pathetic because people have nowhere else to play. As far as slots go, found them to be tight also. But as they say you can usually tell how loose the slots are by the VP paytables, so tight, tight, tight.
