Golden Nugget

Post by Lucky Larry »

Sweet C and I have now been to the new Golden Nugget three times. The casino is gorgeous and definitely met the desire to give Vegas quality to Southeast La/Texas players. The rooms are wonderful and the restaurant selections incredible.

The video poker however is generally around 97% (at least 1% lower) than the norm in the area. Machine options are limited and Cash Back/Weekly Rewards are prohibited on VP machines.

Just curious how others are feeling about GNLC?

As for the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles. I have been there twice, that's two times to many. Yes it is a beautiful casino but if you are a video poker player you are wasting your time playing there. The pay tables are bad and yes there is no cash back. The best casino in the area is still Coushatta in Kinder, LA just 20 mins. from Lake Charles. I have been going there long before the for their first hotel was ever built.  Coushatta still has the best selection of machines, decent pay tables, no state taxes on hand pays and good comps.

Just curious how others are feeling about GNLC?well I dont know about the lake charles GN, but in my estimation, the Golden Nugget(s) in Both AC and of course, Las Vegas are exceptional properties within each of those markets...I will be at the Gn in AC next week (March 4), weather permitting. The Vegas GN in the middle of downtown is the class of that area, and also compares very well with the Strip Properties but without the assault on the senses or wallet that the Strip usually perpetrates.     The Poker Room in BOTH properties is also a good place to play for people with better than avergae skills but who are not quite "professional" yet.......As for Video Poker, the GN in AC has a lot of 97-98% games, with a handful of 99% games (9/6 JOB and a few 8/5 BP)......they also might have a couple 99%+ DDB paytables and NSUD, but I have not been there in about 3 months so who knows, they change it up frequently. The Rooms at both properties are also among the nicer in their respective markets.....

VPFree2 listed this casino with "Nothing Good..." not a good sign. No cash back will make it very expensive to play there. Before being more judgemental about GNLC, LL and Sweet C need to see what offers they get in the mail.

This situation is similar to Fla Phil and the Beau Rivage, at least free rooms are offered when playing with single coin on their 96% machines. If Beau Rivage is similar Bellagio of Vegas, it is high end without a doubt.
