Mulit-Game Machines....

Post by rayj »

Don't you hate it when you're looking for a VP machine and all of them are taken up with people playing that stupid Keno?

For sure!   Just as bad - you're looking to get on a fifty play machine, and it's occupied by someone playing one hand, one credit.

agree with both comments. how about when it is crowded, limited machines and some couple is taking 2 spots and playing only one machine.

I have no problem at all in asking if they mind if I play the one not being played. I do not recall ever being refused.

Agree. Not only that, but when folks are playing non-progressive VP on a progressive machine. They take up space and cause the progressives to rise more slowly. What is especially galling is that there are other, non-progressive multi-game machines theycan play.

agree, not likely to be refused, but what about the common courtesy not to take up two spaces, when you see folks roaming around looking for a machine to play. these folks know what is going on, but force me to ask them, instead of just doing the right thing.

Around these parts there's really only one casino that finding and empty vp machine might be a problem and that's usually on the weekend. For years I did used to worry about driving all the way down to the casinos and having to wait on a machine but now you're pretty much by yourself if you dare try to play. I was very surprised when I went to Laughlin last year and saw pretty much every vp machine being played on a Thursday night, it wasn't much different when I was in Vegas, both places still have plenty of players.

ko, if i recall you are in the tunica area. how is that area doing as far as casinos go? any reports that the area is getting better or worse? was only there once, machines treated me badly but i keep getting lots of offers, including free junket rides. as far as crowded machines, the only casino within a 5 hour drive for me, does get crowded a lot, likely because it is the only place to play for a 4 state area (nc,sc,va,ga). i do not have a problem with couples playing together, i actually think it is a nice thing to do. i am just questioning the courtesy of taking up two machines and forcing others to ask for a seat.

Well as you know Harrah's casino closed, I played there since the doors were opened because it was the only casino I could really get comfortable at. Since the closing I've visited pretty much all the other casinos and I can honestly say it wouldn't bother me one bit if they all shut down. Many of us regulars could see the Harrah's closing coming, very big operation for this area now days. There was a time when every casino in Tunica was crowded but now that's just not the case, business in Tunica does seem to pick a bit on the weekends but it's still a far cry from how it used to be. From what I understand the Fitz was bought for pennies on the dollar, I thought this casino would end up being the next to close but looks like another group is going to see if they can make a go of it. Last time I was in the Fitz I found they had removed all but two $2 denomination vp machines and are down to only 6 or 7 standing vp games, they still have bar top vp but I can't stand playing the lower denom there because of sticky buttons. The Horseshoe casino has plenty of vp to offer, I just don't like the place, never did any good at that place. I used to really like the Roadhouse casino but they put in all the new vp machines a while back and I get destroyed trying to play there, as much as I've played $2 denom I've only managed 1 hand pay on the new style machines and the pay tables are bad for the game I play which might explain why I do so bad there now. The Hollywood casino still seems to be holding their own and have plenty of vp to offer. I went to Sam's Town and left after a minutes so I really can't comment on that place. Same for Resorts and Ballys, I pretty much walked in checked out both places and left. If you do decide to accept the free offer to come to Tunica I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a machine to play but as you know Tunica offers nothing other than casinos, even the mall there is dead. One of the reasons I like Vegas is there's plenty of other things to do when I get tired of gambling, Tunica doesn't have that option. I think Tunica had hoped to follow in the foot steps of Vegas but it never happened, they seemed to do everything wrong, to hard to get back and forth to all the casinos because they're all so spread out. All the casinos in Tunica have employees that are very nice and they treat you very well so that's not an issue, foods still pretty good there also. To sum up what you ask I wouldn't say it's gotten any worse but I sure can't say it's gotten better. In my opinion the answer to solving what ails Tunica lies entirely on something they seem unwilling to do, improve gaming and quit making cuts, gambling is all they have to offer, when you cut back on that value you really have nothing left to offer.

ko, thanks for the reply. i also found the workers to be very nice, way above what i found in AC. your assesment of the situation confirmed the little bit i experienced and read about Tunica. your remedy to their problems also sounds accurate, but agree, that improving the payouts is unlikely. i think we all love going to vegas, but some of us, the flight costs are the big drawback. and, for me, the time commitment. it is a long ride. if i pay $400 to get there, only get $100 free play, i am already out $300 before i get started. rooms and food are pretty much comped wherever you go. i do not play high enough stakes to get plane reimbursement. that is the reason i have started to play more at cherokee, i can drive there, costs a total of $50 and they give me a couple hundred free play for a one night stay. i value your opinions, tell it like it is, lots of common sense.
