Same old (new) Harrah's

Post by OTABILL »

My wife and I drove down to Harrah's Ak Chin last Sunday afternoon as our reward credits were expiring and we did not want to lose them (to use in Vegas). Years ago, it was our favorite casino and we never gave a second thought to driving extra miles to Harrah's as opposed to at least 4 closer casinos. Since the corporate buyout, however, things have not been the same and we had stopped going there regardless of free play, etc. primarily because of the attitude/ambiance at Ak Chin and Harrah's Laughlin. As was the case the last time we went, we wanted to see if the general attitude/ambiance had improved. Unfortunately, we again left with a sour taste.

While we are both taking a sabbatical from VP, we needed to play to rack up a couple of tier credits.   So we played a little. Results were consistent with our recent experience everywhere and after a minimal loss we left. The reason for the sour taste was not because of the brief VP results per se.

We had inadvertently left our player cards at home so we went to the total rewards station to get replacements. As always, we were reminded of CET's caste system so we had to wait our turn until anyone with a higher ranking was served. Fortunately, there were very few others there so we got lucky and were served within a relatively short period. The representative quickly made new cards for us. When we asked for a casino card lanyard, which every other casino we have ever been to has provided without hesitation, we were told she had none and that we could purchase one at the gift shop. We politely said no as we had several at home. We decided to go to the buffet and use up some of our reward credits. When we got there, we were told the buffet was $20 with a 10% discount for gold total reward card holders. The price was a little steep given the quality of the buffet (from past experience) so we passed on it. After earning our tier credits we left to go to our favorite Indian buffet with excellent food at almost half the price. One final note, as we were leaving, standing at the front door was the security guard with an attitude we encountered the last time we were there.

I thought those lanyards were meant to prevent people from losing their club cards more frequently. First time I've heard such a thing, places I go allow me to get two of them when I request them. I've reprinted my card at least 100 times from all the times I've been to that local casino without any charge or resistance.I was disappointed that the Casesar's Palace Bacchanal Buffet (Las Vegas) which is $53 a person on a weekend brunch, only offers just a $1 discount to club card holders. Excellent buffet regardless, but I do not think many people can eat their money's worth. You do not need to play next time, just buy a bottle of water at the gift shop with cash (or non-comped credits) with your TR card and earn the 2 or 3 tier points which yields 1 RC per, it will prevent it from expiration for 6 months.

I wouldn't be surprised if the lanyards were more expensive than reprinting the cards. Still cheap and chintzy to make you buy one though.

Dinky things, like this, in my view are one reason CET is in trouble.

Stuff like smacks of failure all over. Poor or management that doesn't care anymore I guess.
