Bad video poker sessions
Usually on my casino trips I hit a royal flush or at least a number of 4 of a kinds (I play double double bonus poker) This last trip of 5 days I couldn't hit anything....I used my usual strategy but to no avail. Anyone else ever had lots of bad sessions?

It is strictly coincidence.
Unless you play hours and hours per day over the course of several weeks straight without stopping, you are playing with coincidences and not averages. The law of averages will eventually kick in after many many many hours of play and then your returns will be closer to the average expected return.
When the VP "experts" talk about average returns and expected returns, they fail to remind you that casinos see "average return" as something that occurs to thousands and thousands of gamblers over months of actual playing time. Thus, for one person to be singled out during one session and expected to have average returns is insane.
Bottom line: For short term players, anything can happen and probably will!!! You can have a great sesson and then have a terrible session. Happens all the time. It is COINCIDENCE.
That's why true winners who play short term capitalize on good things happening. If you play for only 15 minutes and hit a royal, it's time to go home, no matter how hard it is!!!

Rascal, while I like your theory of coincidence, you are overlooking the obvious alignment of stars, lack of a rabbit's foot and full moon.

Oy, I had one HORRIBLE trip to LV where I swear I couldn't get better than 3 of a kind or the occasional straight - playing Deuces!! The whole trip was like that, absolutely no luck, until the last day. Then I hit 4 deuces twice within about 10 minutes. (I play nickels 90% of the time, so the deuces were on nickel machines.)

I love your comment "it's time to go home". That's the hardest part of gambling...going home!
I'm really enjoying this site. Thanks to all of you.
