My old job, I'm recently retired, had me laying over in Sparks about three nights a week.  I did that run for about 18 years, so I guess I could be classified a semi-local.        Reno/Sparks has changed for the worse in the forty years I've been gambling there.  It used to be understood that the economy ran on the "toke".  A simple idea that they don't get at most of the places.      The Cal/Neva has the worst aspects of a New York State of mind, to wit, rude, lazy, incompetent, indifferent to the needs of those who provide the precious toke that made a low wage job a damned good, tax free  income job, the only rub, you gotta work at it.  To top it off, they had the biggest collection of low pay table machine under one roof with the exception of the California Indian Casinos.      It took John Ascuaga years to figure out a decent slotclub promotion kept the lights on.  A few dollar full pay JOB but at least you got some entertainment and great food.  The Legacy and The Circus had full pay deuces wild.  The El Dorado reeked of desperation as did The Fitz, Harrahs will take care of you but 9/6 games only on a few dollar machines.  Wow, do I ever sound like a grumpy old codger, but I fear they've done it to me.

We live in Vegas now, but lived in Tahoe last year for six months.  We played in Reno, in Tahoe only to so something.  Not a favorable place to play, in our view.  We preferred Grand Sierra Resort.  We stayed 44 nights for free during those six months.  We still have free nights offers coming, but, hey, 400+ miles to get there?  Don't think so.  Too bad.  We liked it there.  We were upgraded half the time to the nice rooms there, and they were nice.  So, our two cents as far as Reno goes.
