Re: AC trip report

Notes, what a disaster! Did you also have a -$1900 two day trip earlier? Hate to remind you. I'm quite familiar with that pattern. I seem to always do gangbusters in the first hour or two of play. I am a day tripper, and hour three is absolutely deadly. It's gotten to the point where I now plan evening events at home to ensure that I leave by mid afternoon! Going tmrw. Hoping for fun and token profit, great weather. You may have to redeem the white tickets for a check in the future. Addict proof.

i try to report ALL trip results, instead of just posting pictures of winning hands. yes, i have had the following negative trips; $1900, $1500, both in AC, along with last trip and a negative grand plus in tampa. i also had a postive $1800 plus, a postive $1500 in cherokee and a postive $400 plus in niagara falls. while no one likes to lose, and even less are willing to admit it, i am actually quite happy with my first 6 months results. i am estimating a negative result of about $4k. when we were younger and poorer, this would have been a disaster, but back then, i never went to a casino. in our current state, this amount of loss, fits well within our budget. plane rides, hotels, free food and doing something i like has a cost. gambling trips are treated like mini vacations. i commend you for having the discipline to gamble within your budget. whether it is gambling or anything else, living within one's means, is often the missing ingredient when determining whether one will achieve financial freedom.

Notes, thanks for bringing me back down to earth on another thread. Reviewing your two latest four figure flame outs on AC trips, I can see why you urged caution! Where did you fare best in town, btw?

FAA, glad to give you the results of my experience, but they are only my experience. i am actually going there on sunday, only because they are offering a single night, 24 hour junket trip. every couple of months, i give it another try. i must be a glutten for punishment, but i get tired of making the 4+ hour trip to cherokee.  where do i fare best the last 5 years, no place.  i will spend a little more time at harrahs than normal, try to change my luck. will also revisit borgata, love the place, but the machines don't like me. i am not expecting any change in results, but because i am well below my expected loss for 2015, i will donate some more to NJ economy. if it were not for AC, i would be net positive for the year.  you may ask, why go to AC, if i keep losing, good question. i had many years of fun there and keep hoping it will change. my other options all include flying, the junkets are limited to AC, tunica(no) and biloxi(no), or junket to places that require extended stays. i do not want to put myself in the position of being marooned in a casino for too long. sorry for long answer to simple question.

notes, I strongly urge you to try the Tropicana (or return to it if you used to play there...)  Here is why:    The video poker that they still have at the Trop is STILL the old IGT style machines (in other words you will not have to deal with the clearly fudged SERVER based games that caesars, ballys and harrahs foist upon the public in AC, which I can truly attest are set to gobble up money like no VP game ever did previously).....and I believe that since the Trop has made a remarkable recovery the last several years under Icahn's tutelage, they are in a position to NOT feel compelled to set the IGT old style Video Poker games they have to yield on the low end of the AC slot return spectrum (i.e. in the 80s range);   I am hearing reports that Trop's machines are returning statistically "NORMAL" results these days, or close to normal anyway.....I intend to play (resume playing that is) at the Trop over my next few visits to AC, which makes sense since the POKER room at the Trop, while NOTHING at all like the Borgata in terms of elegance and decor, offers a good variety of games and tournaments, and has about the best Poker Comps and room deals in AC.   it makes sense to give the VP another shake before I totally write off AC altogether.

thanks for advice. i am purposely taking this trip because of the limited time i will be there, my reasoning, less exposure, less loss. i have a small amount of free play to go through at three casinos, and if time alots, i will stop by the Trop. if i do not try it out it was because of time constraints, not because i disregarded the advice.

you may ask, why go to AC, if i keep losing, good question.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Not at all. Terrific city with so much to do, especially in the summer. I have your Borgata results at Tropicana, which is why I abandoned the place. I don't play any live poker, so no point in going to the south end. I share DB's disillusionment with CET. My 2015 results, after my January Royal Flush, have been negative. They still have a fair number of sitting duck masochists, certainly at high season. I usually see a nice hand pay going down as well. But it has even become a massive struggle to squeeze $20 out of my $25 free play! If I do linger after the free play, I usually lose half of my win. But Marina Oasis shines like a beacon for me once I do leave the premises, portending a good day for the bankroll. Speaking of marooned, I spent a year and a half foolishly marooned on the Boardwalk! Rescue never felt so good.

I was worried about the randomness of the server based Game Kings at the Borgata myself, then I saw a woman hit 2 4k royals within an hour last Friday, one from a 2 card hold and one from a 1 card hold. Now I'm totally confused.

Car, the results of primarily yourself, and secondarily your neighbors should be the yardsticks. If both arrows are up, the water is fine. At CET and Tropicana I was getting beaten like a red headed stepchild. It was time to stop the cycle of abuse. It has certainly been worth the thirty minute round trip from the Boardwalk for my bankroll. Most of the crowd seems to be hanging in there. If I had the time to do some field work, I would watch one player for an hour to monitor their results. But I'm too busy playing myself.

i went to AC for many years and never visited the marina at all. i played mainly at the TAJ, and elsewhere on the boarwalk, had a good time and lost an amount that was reasonable for what i got in return.  i started going to borgata for safety reasons. when revenues dropped, the casinos had no choice but to cut back on expenses and one of those was security. especially in the colder months, it was normal to find someone sleeping at the machine next to you, i had no idea what mental problems might exist. as one gets older, safety becomes more important. the marina has a different crowd and i do not find the stragglers in the casino.

Agree with the safety issue. Bally's had a particular problem. Once they removed the good progressives in the Park Place Poker area, I've never gone back.
