No, he's not talking about the list of topics.  That's what I thought as well at first.

He is talking about within a topic having the newest post at the top.

This is getting a bit confusing. I was talking about,  on the main forum page if you click on last post, the cookies can be set to present messages beginning with the newest and progressing down the page to the older messages.

Yeah, now I have no idea what we're talking about.  But the answer is there isn't a forum setting to change it.

That appears to be the case. Perhaps in the next release there will be an option for it but I try not to over-customize these tools for a lot of reasons.

Clearly, the option exists withiin the software to display either oldest or newest first as we can set it when we start. So, all we need is the software to remember even after we logged out. I think that is why MikeA brought up cookies.

Let me clarify.  I was not concerned with "newest topic first".  My request was for messages within any topic to be presented with the newest message first with the ultimate option being having the "first unread" presented first. And to BigBoy....thanks.  I believe you are right.  I think that as long as you stay logged in the manually selected option for "newest first" holds true.  I am not sure if you lose that selection if you "refresh" your browser. On a side note:  The option I requested is NOT available on most of the forum software.  I have no idea why it is not but VideoPoker.Com is the "norm" rather than the exception.  I'd just like to see it be EXCEPTIONAL And "YES" SM, that is exactly why I mentioned Cookies.  Well, cookies were actually on my mind because of a SNAFU I had on my laptop that was caused by some sort of sync error while I was out in Vegas that WM helped me straighten out.  But that seemed a way to facilitate the "memory" of the setting I had in mind.I understand WM, about keeping the software vanilla.  Any distributed upgrade (i.e. "RELEASE") would mean the loss of any customization you had spent time developing.

OK, we got that straightened out.

Now, we might as well ask for the world. The software should be able to remember the last time we viewed a given thread and bring us directly to the next item. That way if we were gone for two days (like one of my casino trips) and come back it would take us the next message in that topic. All this would require is a time stamp for each thread we had viewed. It could time out a thread not viewed for 6 some time (3 months?) so the cookie doesn't keep growing and growing.

Although this sounds complicated it really shouldn't be too hard to implement. Webman, maybe you can pass it along to your software provider.

Both are great suggestions. There are bigger fish to fry at this time but I'll keep these in mind as we revamp / patch the forum software in the future.

OOPS....BigBoy, we seem to have been wrong.  I checked in this morning and set the option the "newest first".  I came back a few moments ago and had to reset it to "newest first".  I don't know what resets it.  Maybe a dormant time limit?

Try another computer(if available). It retains the newest first setting on both of mine, provided i don't logout of the forum. Maybe it's a problem with Firefox? I'm running IE7 on mine.
