Leaving Sunday 07-05

Post by DaBurglar »

I will be in AC most of next week, 07-05  thru 07-11 or thereabouts......anyone planning on being there this period???  Please look me up, I will be mostly staying at Taj & Resorts, with one day at HArrahs (tomorrow, Sunday, 07-05)but I will be playing lots of poker at Borgata......Sadly I missed the 4th of july boardwalk festivities, but since the 4th fell on a Saturday this year, I was not able to get any decent room deals, plus I was told AC is a zoo since Thursday afternoon, and hopefully as I am making my way INTO the city tomorrow, people will be heading the other way!But now is when AC and its boardwalk vendors/businesses makes a huge portion of its money, something like 70% or more of its revenue for the boardwalk non casino biz,  between the 4th of July and Labor day......I am hoping/praying for AC to somehow overcome the huge disadvantage this year of having four Boardwalk casinos shuttered......when I was there a month ago in early june, a couple of my favorite boardwalk ice cream vendors were literally on the brink of not being able to survive past this summer, they both said it will largely depend on what happens after the 4th.  I imagine this is repeating itself among MANY boardwalk businesses and vendors, which sucks because that is the essence of SUMMER FUN in AC, the Boardwalk at night during July and August!

AC is a zoo since Thursday afternoon

Sounds about right! I was sadly unable to get away. Should do a quick Ballys/Caesars play and peel out on Sat. Will employ cheap system to avoid another bust scenario. Because anything is an improvement over last visit.

I returned two days early from my scheduled trip (Late Wednesday night, 07/08).....per usual, it was horrible in AC, both the "limited" video poker I played in between poker sessions, as well as the Weather (near 100% humidity the 3-1/2 days I was there!)   The crowds were good as previous poster noted, but the boardwalk food was both exceedingly bad in quality (which is a surprise, usually it is decent) and all the prices were raised significantly ($7  for a soft serve milkshake?!?!?  ugh)But I am heartbroken right now, over the main reason I had to return two days early from trip, and Although I know some of you like to criticize it when people like me share personal gripes or problems, I would appreciate it if you see this as NOT the time for such criticism:One of my two Pugs, Molly, was attacked by what we think was a coyote sometime early Monday evening.....My father found her when she had not returned from her evening "poop patrol" with her companion, my other Pug Gustavus ("gus"), she had been severely mauled and bitten but still managed to drag herself up enough for him to notice when he called her name!   She was rushed to a animal hospital near my home, and they put her in the ICU and performed emergency surgery.......My dad called me in AC the next day (Tuesday  07/07) , but because I was "too busy" having all that wonderful fun in AC, and because I never bring my cell phone into the poker room(s) when playing (not even on silent, too distracting, and besides, some players get antsy if start talking or texting, and the casinos prefer the poker arena to be free of cell phones, in some tournaments they are even banned totally) .... and because I cannot hear my cell phone while on the casino floor amidst all that noise of "jackpots", I never actually got the message until late Tuesday afternoon, which meant I could not get home until Wednesday at the earliest. When I got home Wednesday, Molly was till fighting, and for the briefest of moments, after a blood transfusion, and  her surgical drains were pulled and the tracheotomy tube disconnected, she seemed like she might have a chance...but then last night, around 9pm, she suddenly went into cardiac arrest and died. There is so much deaqth and suffering in the world, everywhere, and casinos offer a brief distraction from such things......but I'll be damned if AC did not help just a little in taking away from me the best, most valuable distraction I had in my life.FWI (and FYI):  I do not blame the Coyote.....he was doing what Coyotes do (assuming it was a coyote, but according to the Vet, it had all the earmarks of such a thing).....for all I know it was a mother Coyote with Pups in her den in the woods behind my house, and she saw in my plump little pug Molly a meal for them.I have an invisible underground electric "barrier" which kept my dogs in the yard with a collar on the neck.....sadly, it does not keep things OUT.When I am done grieving the loss of my best friend, I will divulge further details about the abbreviated trip to AC, including the interesting conversation I had Tuesday at Lunch with three people who were former employees and agents of the NJ casino commission......I have met other people who worked in the past for the various NJ gaming & Casino agencies, but these three were particularly enlighteneing and informative since they had all retired ( or were forced to retire) and had, between them, some 78 years of total experience........but thats for another time. If  any of you have a special pet (or pets)......tell them how special they are and hug them now, and hug them often.    I cannot tell you what I would PAY to be able to do that one more time for Molly

Sorry for your loss, DaBurglar. But at least the coyote didn't get both of them.

sorry to hear about your loss. over our 38 years of marriage, we have had 5 dogs die. they were some of the best friends i ever had in my life, and we still miss them. when the world sometimes seems like it is really going to hell, man's best friend is always glad to see you and makes everything feel just a little bit better. don't know if you believe in heaven, but that is where all dogs go.

It's always difficult to lose a pet, no matter what it is. The good memories of them are never lost.

So sorry for your loss.  We lost our boxer, also named Molly, in May to cancer.  She was  a wonderful companion and usually be my side when I played video poker on this site.  I had thought about changing my picture, which is one of her, but now it brings back fond memories of her when I log on .  One thing many of us on this site have in common is the love of our pets.
