Cheap food in Tunica?

Post by Mr.Dawes »

I am going to Tunica for the first time on Labor Day weekend. I am kind of cheap when it comes to food, does anyone know which casinos have the cheapest foods. I am planning on staying at Sam's Town. Thanks in advance.

Tunica isn't as cheap as it used to be unfortunately.

A good buffet for the price is Sam's Town though. $9.99 for lunch every day (or 5000 slot/VP points = $3000 coin-in there). The snack bar there isn't cheap, but the g/f tried their breakfast platter and approved. And hope you like JoB, it's the only 99%+ game at Sam's, but at least it's on the bartops!

We also like the Philly Cheese Steak at Fitz, but it's not the bargain it used to be. The sandwich with fries is $9.

Horseshoe's Burger bar is also good, but again pricey.

If you really want to save money, eat Sonic or Wendy's off of Hwy 61. Or Checkers off of Casino Strip Blvd. Haven't tried Checkers though. The other two are up to par in our experience.

Thanks for the info. I am glad there is a Wendy's nearby. Value menu works for me. Hoping to find a place that has a basic two eggs, bacon and toast breakfast for a reasonable price also. Have you ever made the drive to Lula for the Isle of Capri? They are supposed to have 99.69% SDDB at .25 denom.

Hi Mr. Dawes,

I've been in Tunica, averaging one stay per month, for the last 20+ years, feel free to direct message me if I can answer any questions.

The food is Tunica is usually good, to very good, at all the casinos, and the price will vary greatly between weekend and weeknight. Most have buffets (leaning toward Southern cooking & choices), short order places, and many have steakhouses. You will find Tunica, from a food perspective, less expensive than AC, Biloxi, and the larger "chain" casinos in Vegas.

We all know machine paybacks, as a whole, nationwide, are not what they once were.

Good Luck and Enjoy!

Robert

Hi Robclyde,Thanks for the feedback. Do you know if any of the casinos in Tunica have video poker machines in smoke free areas?I plan to drive up to Memphis one day, do you have a favorite BBQ place there?

Yeah, I'm the one that created the VPFree2 list for that casino.

But if you are okay with 9/6 Jacks with a Boyd gaming players card that can be used elsewhere and earns 0.166% in Freeplay or 0.333% in food, I really wouldn't recommend going.

But please read my July 2014 TR that includes Lula (ugh) and see for yourself!

July 2014 Tunica/Lula TR

Also this TR talks about the Fitz buffet being $7 on Mondays...that's no longer true.

nobody is cheaper than me, glad to know there are other members of the club. only have one experience in tunica. if you are playing a lot at one casino, you may just want to go to host's office and ask what they can give you. that is what i did when there and got free buffets each day. the worst anyone can say is NO.  most men have heard that plenty, but it doesn't stop them from asking/begging.

Yeah, Tunica isn't that generous on mailers, but if you ask, they tend to respond.

There are plenty of good BBQ places in Memphis, I've tried just a few of them, over the years (Rendevous, Central, Corky's, Tops, Interstate). I would suggest googling, you can't typically go wrong where there are recent positive reviews.

I live about 3 hours from there and most of my time in the area, is spent at Tunica. I don't like buying food when I leave $'s in Tunica so I only eat where I have comp'd meals.

As noted elsewhere, go the each player club desk, and/or the host desk, and get everything free/discounted that you can.

Forgot to address the smoke free VP, play at most, but not regularly at a couple of them, here's my recollection -

HOLLYWOOD - don't think so, anymore. Back corner, and bar tops at 2 bars.
RESORTS - no, quiet area back corner by bar that also has bar top machines, also bar tops at main bar.
SAM'S TOWN - no, have recently closed 2nd level and moved all VP downstairs, cramped, and noisy area, in the corner. Also bar tops at other end of casino
THE FITZ - don't think so, haven't been there in the last 6 months. Besides, the ticket machines, (last I knew) they had 6 or 8 quarter and dollar coin machines, still. In the same area they also have coin in/out nickel and quarter slots and reels. Last ones in Tunica. Also bar top 1st and 2nd levels.
GOLD STRIKE - yes, upstairs, I typically play downstairs though as that is where the Ultimate is located. Bar tops at 2 bars.
HORSESHOE - no, besides the bar tops, VP area is back by buffet and poker room, again not usually crowded.
TUNICA ROADHOUSE - no, quiet area in the back, since CET changed out all machines last year, not as a good of a VP destination as once was. Bar tops at 2 bars.
BALLY'S - no, floor area and bar tops.

I'm not a smoker but do play a considerable of VP (not as much as I used to as pay tables have continued to move in the houses favor). The VP areas, overall, are well ventilated, and cigars and pipes are not allowed. You see more and more folks Vaping, and less cigarettes.
