How long would it take......

Post by gregorio »

I am starting a new thread, because this topic's thread ended a few weeks ago, but since I only read it now, I'd like to say something that I feel was relevant to that discussion. This has something to do with a possibility of a VP machine being "rigged" or " adjusted" so to speak. It happened in a well-liked and popular AC casino about a year or so ago. I was there because points multiplier promotion, which started at midnight. I showed up earlier in a day just to gamble. I am sure many here understand that using points multiplier is only an excuse for us recreational players to indulge in our vice. Anyway, I played several VP machines with moderate success ( interpreted as did not loose much) and ended up on a  .25c 10-play Dream Card  machine at around  8 PM. Played for about an hour or so of DDB and ended up ahead. Decided to take a break for dinner, rest and resume at midnight when points multiplier kicked in. Was at the Dream Card machine a bit after midnight and decided to play DW to stretch my dollar and accumulate more points. People who are familiar with Dream Card VP, know in DW game the Dream Card shows up roughly 2 out of 3 times. Well it didn't show up at all in the first 10 minutes, but I am stubborn! Continued to play another 10 minutes and still no Dream Card! That's 20 minutes and roughly 200 hands!!! Lost around $1200 in the interim. Got super pissed off and called over the first suit I saw passing by. He had no clue what I was talking about and suggested I call a technician to see if the machine was functioning properly. I told him I played it a few hours ago and it was fine. His suggestion: play a different machine. Now you tell me: was it "rigged" (after midnight) or was it "memorex"?  What are the chances of this machine not to produce a single Dream Card, when I should have had at least 150 of them? Can someone calculate the odds? Well, I am a gambler. We are all gamblers here and our memories are short. If they weren't, we'd never set foot in the casino again. I went back at least half a dozen times since then. The Dream Card machine was taken out the next time I showed up. A small consolation for what happened. So here you go: believe or not.

I once played DDB an entire day without a single quad.  Just because the math says it's going to happen doesn't make it so.

I would think the machine malfunctioned rather than being rigged. If they were going to "fix" a game they would not make it so obvious.  You should have had a tech check it out while you were there.

You sound like you know what your doing but are you positive you were playing max credits and not just 5 coins per line. I have played dream card deuces are you are correct you get the dream card it seems almost every hand. If you were indeed playing 10 coins per line there must have been a machine malfunction.

And as most know, I have gone without a Royal twice in over a million hands each time in the last two and a half years. Prior average over the last twenty years was six to ten w-2Gs a year. This year even betting higher per hand....None...Unfortunately, we are dealing with infinity when something is supposed to happen. Think about every hand that you are dealt. The probability of getting that exact hand in that exact order is nearly astronomical. So imagine the probability of getting several hands dealt exactly that way. It is off the charts. Years ago, I played roulette for awhile. 16 consecutive reds came up followed by three zeros. I saw a craps player roll 5 or 6 consecutive twelves and on a blackjack table where I was playing about twenty years ago, the dealer had blackjack eleven out of thirteen hands. You would think none of this stuff could happen, but unfortunately it can and does. Many years ago, I had a 55 minute roll on the craps table while betting almost nothing because I had nothing to bet with other than my 5 dollar pass line bet. I have seen a couple of others roll close to an hour and a half before crapping out. Extremely rare yes of course, but not impossible. Finaly, just about 3 or 4 years ago at Mohegan Sun, a player hit a penny slot progressive for 2.4 million just as I was walking by. Imagine the odds of not only her hitting the progressive, but the odds of me walking by at that exact second. Mind boggling.
