At what point is the royal worth going for?

7/5 and 8/5 not good  for me.---------------------------------------Nor for anyone's bankroll. It's always sad to see people playing short pay JOB in AC. Full pay is readily available with just a little legwork! They might even elevate their heart rate.

There is one more thing to consider with most progressives, it is short
pay for its base and the risk of ruin is far greater. Your patience and
bankroll will need to be stretched. If you are not the lucky one that
gets it, you would have to wait until the amount reaches back to good
levels again.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Short pay, full pay, just a gimmick for me. I played full pay 9/6 JOB on progressives most of 2015. Since my January max coin Royal Flush, I could not even score a quad most trips before abandoning them in rage. My win was a whopping $1,006. They were usually at a paltry $1,005-$1,025 when I played so I did not expect a repeat RF, but were they ever tight.  I don't even patronize the casino anymore for fear of busting. I play non progressive 9/6 JOB elsewhere and premium hands have been noticeably more generous! Much happier camper once I hopped off Progressive Pit Parkway. The waitresses were no spring chickens either.

As much as how losses stings, try not give up on 9/6 JoB progressive. It is pretty much a privilege to get to play under those conditions these days. I do not think location affects the outcomes of the game if they are the same paytable. Location matters in terms of comps.

Bah humbug. Progressive seems an artificial carrot designed to collar the masses. I don't much care about an extra hundred bucks on a 40,000 to one hand. A smoother ride on plain 9/6 is nicer.

Mostly, but if you do it right, it works. At my locals, one place does definitely it wrong, 6/5 JoB with Royal values averaging $1030.

Also I like to see progressives, they get decent sometimes.

If I ran a casino though, I'm probably offering a game with a 0.75% meter or more. Progressives get a lot of play if the royal pushes that "double royal" mark.

I think that quarter prog 8/5 ddb example with an $8,000 Royal was around 115% expected return?

FAA, My guess is that you were playing the quarter 9/6 JOB progressives at Caesars AC. I've tried the quarter Double Joker progressives there numerous times with seemingly impossible bad results. It is time to walk away from there.

Any game can be rough when 3.68% of the return is lumped into that royal. Also ridiculously difficult strategy. Basic strategy (i.e. no penalty exceptions) is 0.03% less than optimal.

Yes, you are correct Vman. Difficult strategy and a major drop without the royal.. But the lack of 4 oak's, straight flushes etc. are cause for concern.

Right on the nose, Car. Do they ever reek! Sounds like you were fleeced even worse there! SMH. At least we both know enough to stay the hell out. I entered very cautiously today and won $6 quick. It paid for my marina escape!

Depends what kind of progressive. In years past, we often played a $0.25 7/5 DDB progressive and did reasonably well where 5 premium hands had progressives. At the time, the entire 12 machine bank was DDB dedicated and the meter was really good. There were quite a few times when the RF progressive was over $1400, the AWAK prog over $800, plain aces and 2,3,4WK over $300 and the 2,3,4 over $125. Never could figure the odds but, while volatile, they were not bad. Now a days, the bank is no longer exclusively DDB, the meter is much slower and seemingly, the number of winning hands is much lower, at least for us, so we have severely curtailed our play.
