I always hold a 10, there is just something about a "10".

i have hit quite a few royals holding j/10,k/10,q/10 so i think i will keep playing my way.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I agree on those holds. I thought you were talking about the 10/A, which is against the book. I have been reluctant to pull the trigger on that hold, and it may well have cost me a RF. You just never know.

You tell em Doris. Rules are made so they can be broken and they don't even make you sit in the corner anymore with the Dunce hat on. How many people remember that?

I guess it's not too crazy. Ten ace may well pay off long term. The expected return differential cannot be too much. Whatever it may be, it's practically irrelevant to the rec crowd! We've just been conditioned to categorize it as a catastrophic hold.

Here we go again, with more "discussion" about  "S K I L L"   and LUCK   and how the two manifest within any success a player happens to enjoy.....Skill in video poker is a totally overused, over-applied term ..... a player's simple ability to MEMORIZE what he/she/it  must do in any given scenario playing their game of choice is the MOST important element for long term success, followed by their ability to DERIVE the correct hold (i.e. "think their way through a specific scenario" that he/she/it does not have memorized, or simply forgot the correct play)....if you want to call that "Skill" its a free country, but it is not nearly as grandiose as the term SKILL usually implies.LUCK is the most important element for short term success (or within a specific session,  i.e. what happens within the GAME you happen to be playing RIGHT NOW or in the next day or so....), and everyone knows this (even Mr.  B. Dancer)   Long term success (as nebulous and fleeting as that concept is for most people)  is dependent on:(1)  Memorization of correct plays (or the ability or figure it out, but even here, a person should not be playing a game that he/she/it does not have the correct plays already memorized) ......"skill" in the words of other people here.(2)  Discipline in terms of only playing games that a player knows how to play perfectly, playing the best paytables, OR playing games where the combination of paytable & rewards/comps/perks/slot club etc etc etc  gives you the level of return % you need for the long term profit you desire....in other words, ONLY playing the game(s) where you have the correct level of A D V A N T A G E !   [2(a)]  Discipline (and MATH ability) to manage and play within the proper Bankroll needed for whatever level of Long term success is your goal.    Do not play over your head, and also do not play UNDER the level needed to attain maximum return%  and  Advantage.    (3)  Ability to conduct and perform diligent, consistent analysis (either at home or in your office or wherever) PRIOR to actually stepping into the casino ..... by this I mean spending time putting together ALL the possible casino opportunities, offers, games (and their paytables)  and then conducting analysis to determine WHERE or what your best advantage play exists, given your goals and circumstances.    Now, if someone wants to engage in semantics, and say this is all about EITHER Skill  or  LUCK only, go ahead.    This is just my refined take on it......

DaBurglar thank you for your refined take on, whatever. Again you have managed to put Captain Obvious to shame.

DaBurglar thank you for your refined take on, whatever. Again you have managed to put Captain Obvious to shame. And you would be Captain Obvious yourself, gotcha.   So in other words I just put you to shame.....I'll gladly go along with that, although it never requires much effort to do so, simply all I need to do is make a nice relevant post about whatever the topic of the moment is, and then YOU come along with a snide, pointless BS comment (like this one above) and its business as usual. It's just too Much effort for you to simply bypass ANY post I make about ANYTHING, isn't it?  Pathetic, just pathetic......

...and it only took 400-500 words!!! the more you gripe about the "length" of my posts, the lazier you look.   And you still cannot count (you simply plopped a RANGE down this time....)
