i don't care what his reasoning is or was, icahn is a billionaire and he didn't need to take away their benefits.i doubt very much he plans to restore them.

Its quite UNBELIEVABLE at just how far this place (the TAJ) has sunk from a mere 5 years ago (2009-10) to now.....and I am not exaggerating when I say the place is literally falling to pieces... if you walk along the outside perimeter of the building, especially the parking garage, the entrance ports and thruways, the bus ports, you will see that the sides of the building, roofs and various facades and decor are falling off or apart.....giant gaping holes exist everywhere and have been that way now for several years.....I am pretty certain this alone violates whatever community agreement such a casino would have with any host community for maintaining a presentable and functional (and safe!) establishment.    They have some half-assed barriers up trying to block the passageway for cars near the thruway on the RIGHT side of the entrance passgeway, because that portion has the biggest holes in the ceiling/roof where chunks of plaster and stuff has been falling to the ground, so obviously any vehicle (or pedestrian) traversing that way is at risk.    I just do not get it.....But this is a commonplace situation for ALL of AC, although I concede it is NOT as extreme as at other AC casinos/hotels....And yet a few stubborn, delusional people here will adamantly maintain "things have never been better in AC".....    I'm pretty certain they only say that because it is ME posting these observations and comments.

DB, Taj is indeed clueless. Their choice for mega screen game of the day? Not New England-New York. Pittsburgh-Baltimore. SMH. Luckily, that was itself exciting. The network switched to NE-NY for OT. I saw the coup de grace final play and left a happy customer anyway. Taj is entirely oblivious of their base and has a poor grasp of geography. They just avoid thinking and use KYW's decision.

The Washington Post just ran an explainer on the genesis of the whole mess. The man owned three casinos. He went bust. 'Nuff said.

Thanks, MF. Potemkin Village! That's a hoot! Nice zinger.
AC was thoroughly mismanaged even in 1988. How does their golden goose gambling industry make $15M profit on $2.7B revenue? What an outfit. Those managers could bring the NFL or Hollywood to the brink of demise.

abraham lincoln, henry ford, walt disney, milton hershey (candy), burt reynolds, h.j. heinz and p.t. barnum have something in common with trump. according to cnn, all filed for bankruptcy. many successful people have faced adversity. let's not forget all the folks who lost their homes/went bankrupt during the recession, we are constantly being told it was not their fault. wasn't it the fault of the lenders, couldn't the same be said of those who lent to trump. i am no fan of trump, but as it has been discussed on this forum in great detail, there are many reasons for AC downfall. casino owners got fat and happy. tax revenues were poorly spent, the area was never cleaned up or revitalized. the recession and increased competition just brought all that was wrong to light. our country's current ceo, will have piled up more debt than all previous presidents combined. one can use stats to support whatever conclusion they want to sell. that is what the washington post is trying to do, in the middle of an election. interesting timing.

b/t/w, one can add the city of ATLANTIC CITY, to the list of those who may very well need to file bankruptcy. i wonder if the WASHINGTON POST will write a story that is critical of the city's democratic leadership, come election time. probably not, instead they will blame the city's problems on the republican governor.

afaik none of those individuals owned any casinos. going bust when you own a casino takes a special kind of reverse Midas touch imo.

'going bust' ??? filing for bankruptcy protection is much different than going bankrupt. no fan of trump, but he never went bankrupt or ' bust'. on the other hand, numerous other casinos in AC have gone under and CET is currently under bankruptcy protection. i guess liberals prefer the honesty of a president, who stands in front of the camera, points his finger to the folks and states, he never had sexual relations with that woman. that woman being an intern, who he had complete power over. and, his wife, running on a platform of women's rights, who did her best to malign ALL the women who accussed her husband of sexual assualt.

The union did not destroy the taj. The years of neglect are the biggest reason. The lies of icahn's reasoning to break a binding contract will be it's end. Do you really think he has any intention of putting hundreds of millions to put the place back in shape? It was only done as a way to use the court ruling to break contracts at other properties , mainly the tropicana.
