Which Game/Denomination???

Post by Popeye3161 »

Long time recreational Video Poker player seeking advice from the pros and math wizards on the forum.

All things being equal in the pay tables (ie similar games paying 9/6 Dbl Bonus) Is it better to play 10 hand $.25, 5 hand $.50, or 3 hand $1.00??? I realize that the $1.00 game is actually $2.50 more, but I'm trying to get a sense if it's better to play the higher denomination game with fewer hands over the lower denomination game with more hands.

Also, I like to play Quick Quads & Super Times Pay and other games with premium wagers for the additional features (some 1 credit more per hand for a total of 6 credits per hand and others being 5 credits more per hand for a total of 10 credits per hand). I'm curious what other's thoughts are regarding wagering the extra credits for the additional potential payoff and whether it's worth it???

Finally, putting the two questions above together, I'm looking for opinions on which game (QQ, STP, UltX, 3, 5, 10 hand Poker), which domination ($.25, .50, 1.00) and how many hands (3, 5, 10, etc) do players on the forum deem to be the best combination for long term play and the greatest chance of winning given proper play???

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts....

I play mostly single line games, but as to denomination, just make sure that you get the correct payout for the Royal should it hit. For instance, you would not want to play a dollar game for a dollar on each line when on the quarter game with 1.25 bet on each line you would get paid the correct Royal amount. I have had no success on games with extra coins required. My wife has had some however, and with games with poor paytables. Those games are great when they hit, but they can also wipe you out in a hurry.

You are asking several semi-related questions.First, for a given "regular" game, for the same total outlay, it is lower variance to play more lines. That is 1 cent Hundred Play is considerably lower in variance than 10 cent Ten Play  which in turn is considerably lower in variance than $1 single line. For bankroll preservation, lower variance is a good thing. Also, most players think the more lines you have the more fun you have. However, very few casinos have these three options. You don't often get as much choice as you like. So you have to make your choices among what's available --- with not playing at all always an option. (For me, with 9/6 DDB, it would be a rare situation where the slot club and promotions are enough to make the game worthwhile. It has happened, however, and I have played that game.)When you throw in STP, QQ, and other variations, you have a bigger problem with "what games are available." These games are likely restricted to a few pay tables and denominations only --- and often they all are unplayable for players who insist on playing with an advantage. If your question was "25 cent Ten Play 9/6 DDB Ultimate X" versus "50 cent Ten Play STP 9/6 DDB" we could address that question. 9/6 DDB UX is another question. VERY few casinos offer either QQ or UX in these variations --- and the ones that do have very limited choices as to denominations. So, before anybody can help you more, what casino are you playing at and what pay schedules/denominations are available to choose among?
