Our daughter plays almost exclusively Spin Poker at 10¢-25¢ level in La. She topped out at about 30+ hand pays last year. The La. casinos offer 98% return on most 25¢ denomination games. While I've played it occasionally, I find it to be farther between hits but larger hits due to the row matrix. In January I committed to playing it more and won at the same basic rate as my other multi-hand games. Got dealt Deuces on DW and for the first time ever on multi-hand in 7 years of play Deuces/A on 25¢ for a nice hand pay.

I do not play STP or the other extra credit games so I can't compare them to Spin.

Comes down to each to their own and "TIMING".

It depends on the pay schedule. If it's a good pay schedule, it's a good game. If it's not, it's a bad game

Well who can argue with this tidbit of irrefutable wisdom. However, and I am just spit balling here, in the case of what I have seen in AC these past 6 months where these games like wheel and Hot Roll and Barnyard and Royal Hunt have suddenly appeared, the targeted audience on the part of AC casino managers is NOT people like me, or BOB, or Larry, or anyone who even BOTHERS to look at paytables (let alone understand what they are looking at)......the target audience is people with little or no VP experience who are sick of playing 1 cent slots but who want some kind of "gimmick" or "thing" to look at or watch while the cards are being dealt and drawn.     I call it the Infantilization (or Regression) of American Video poker.   I am sure Mr. B. Dancer has a more professional word or term to apply......

I take it your luck hasn't been the greatest on those machines.

They're fine, if highly volatile, and very entertaining. I pulled $5K (a $4K 4x deuces with a kicker on TDB at 4x $0.50 and another ticket for $1000 in smaller hits) out of a Barnyard Poker at Borgata on Saturday night... hit the $0.25 Triple Wheel Poker on TDB for another $1250 (AWAK then the wheel bonus for 1000 quarters) and and then for $1700 a few minutes later (10X $0.10 dealt quad 3's pulled 2 kickers on TDB then Gold Wheel bonus for another 10,000 dimes).   Hit a Hot Roll a few weeks ago for $7200 on dimes.  I wouldn't play them full time but they do pay.

I'm with you JT. I had some good luck on a Hot Roll machine this past weekend and my productivity on DreamCard (in Las Vegas, Four Winds in Michigan, Hollywood in Lawrenceburg, IN) machines has been outstanding.

Like you, I also do not usually play these games full time unless they're hitting of course.

Good luck to you.

No, I'll just throw a few bucks in them now and again for fun.  The paytables aren't awesome, true (although the paytable doesn't take into account the bonuses, IDK how that figures into the return, and it's probably incalculable anyway since the bonus is effectively just a slot machine) but at least at the Borgata, they aren't as awful as the non-gimmick machines are at other joints (i.e. Harrah's with their ugly 7/5 quarter DDB STP machines) so they're aren't wholly unplayable.  But I wouldn't go play those with my whole bankroll expecting an extended session.  EDIT: And yes, the hot roll $7200 was at Borgata.  I haven't played these anywhere else.
