Ted, too late. I was agog at the $1230 JOB progressive today. It actually tipped positive for the first time in my patronage. Despite three quads, I left the joint $5 poorer than when I left home. And that's after being propped up by a $25 craps roll, which allowed me to resume grinding. I came, I saw, I conceded.
talked to cops and security says it happens all the time at all the other casinos too, you have to be more careful, I said if it happens all the time what are YOU doing to prevent it. Crickets.

What would you suggest they do?
Wait, are you suggesting that the Casino DO nothing?  Or that the casino has NO obligation to try and deter this type of BS?   Seriously, try and make an effort and answer.....Jeter, I am sorry you had a lousy trip.....when you and I met you talked about and mentioned a lot of what you said in this post about the 100 play QQ machines and the clique of 7star gamblers who seem to have a lot of pull.     Too bad Roveer is not around to chime in since he was 7 star and played at this HArrahs almost exclusively.   He no doubt has thoughts on these issues.Back to the thieves.....so what Jeter described was a "team", a young un' who scopes and swoops in to nab tickets, and then quickly yet casually hands it off to some "innocuous" looking senior with a cane or on a cart or wheelchair who proceeds to cash it.......given the number of Harrahs security guards, and their "REP" for roughing up people in questionable instances of trouble, I am somewhat angry they did not, or cannot (or WILL NOT?) do something more both in this instance and for future reference.   As soon as this was reported and they video tape examined, the faces of the two culprits should have IMMEDIATELY been scanned looking for them to see if they were dumb enough to STILL BE on premises......then, their images should be sent to all other AC casinos, AND sent to the New Jersey Gaming Enforcement Agency.   THAT is what would happen in Vegas......the next time those two people set foot in Harrahs, they should be immediately apprehended if their security and facial recognition software is worth anything!ALSO......your friend (the one who had his ticket stolen) should file his own report with the Dept of Gaming.....I'm 100% serious.   I do not know how much the ticket was worth  but by reporting this incident to the dept of gaming, you can at least have a State agent assigned to your "case" and then he/she will inevitably follow up with HArrahs, and at least put a little pressure on them to do something about it, at least prevention wise. The fact however that harrahs acted the way they did, basically BLAMING the customer 100% and offering to do NOTHING is just TYPICAL of AC in general and how totally AWFUL they are to their customers, compared to other gaming destinations (unless you left that part out.....did harrahs at least offer a free meal or SOME consolation????)   In Vegas, this type of incident has a totally different narrative and ending.....Sure, we all know we are supposed to be careful in a casino, but wtf.....turning one's back for 30 seconds to socialize with a friend does NOT mean a person deserves to be victimized like this.....again, just what the hell is all the security for anyway?   Actually, now that I think about it, have any of you really, seriously looked, I mean really LOOKED, at what passes for a typical AC in house on-the-floor security guards in the 8 remaining casinos ??(Borgata has the best in house force, but the other 7......ehhh)     It's actually pretty pathetic.....I would not trust them to guard a dessert trolley, never mind a casino.    Most are incredibly out of shape, old, and when you talk with them, not the sharpest knives in the drawer either.     I have always assumed their must be a rapid reaction "swat" type team waiting behind closed doors to be summoned during a real true blue emergency or incident....anyone know if I am right in that assumption?

First let me say that I too feel bad for jeter's friend. Having said that I will also say that it is still ultimately the players responsibility to mind their machine and any credits which may reside inside this machine.

It would be nice if the culprits were caught and punished and it could still very well happen.

DaBurglar can you be taking such a strong stance because you too, once had this happen to you? My memory may be a bit fuzzy but I seem to remember you reporting that this also happened to you as well, am I wrong?

what do you think the casinos would do if their casino cages were being held up? would you ask the same question? don't most casinos have facial recognition programs? identify the thieves and prosecute them. at the very least, ban them from the property. there are only so many casinos in AC, the crooks will be out of places to do their dirty work.
You make a good point, what a crappy thing to say to someone who has chosen to patronize your business, "you have to be more careful, it happens here all the time". That line alone says a lot about a place, how would you feel to walk into a department store, be robbed inside the place and they say, "you have to be careful, it happens here all the time". If it happens anywhere all the time the business owner is the one that should be more careful and responsible, or at least put up signs that say "be very careful, this place is dangerous and you may be robbed at any time".

left and lost a ticket twice, both were my fault. at cherokee, reported it to security, pointed out the machine and they said they would check into it. figured the money was gone. about an hour or so later, 3 suits found me, told me they had found the thief on camera, followed the ticket being cashed out, found the person, got the money back and booted the person out of the casino. they handed me the recovered funds. i was impressed and have posted this story before, because i believe that all news, whether good or bad about casinos, should be reported.  the other time was at a CET casino in vegas. reported it to security, told it happens all the time and tough luck. no effort a all to assist me. never played there again.    i know casinos are going through tough times, some of it is their fault, some not. as a result, personel decisions have to be made. but, i would encourage them to check out their customers, they are largely over the age of 50 and many are female. if the 'feel' of safety and a secure place to play goes away, many customers will not go there.

My "What do you suggest they do?" question was intended to refer to the actual prevention of the theft - not to how to deal with and punish the offender(s). Yes, if they can be identified, and, hopefully, apprehended, prosecute them, trespass them, circulate their pictures to other casinos, whatever.

But, unless you believe that their knowing this will be their fate, if caught, will deter other lowlifes from stealing in casinos (I don't), these after the fact punishments will not really prevent more occurrences.

The suggestion of using surveillance cameras to identify loiterers, casino cruisers, etc., is a good one. But, you have to acknowledge that there can be lots of legitimate reasons for someone to be roaming around a casino.

It's sad to say, but there are a lot of cruddy people out there looking for easy money. If you look vulnerable, or give them the slightest opportunity, they will pounce. So, don't give them that chance.
