Yep...I see it too...Craps, Blackjack, Roulette, drinking, clubs, more drinking, chain smoking, staggering around the casino, girls especially the worst. And I forgot....screamers both boys and girls. VP...not that I can see from any of the younger set.

i see the same things that olds mentioned, here is the question i have. how do these young people afford it? many of them get rooms,  and that cannot be cheap.  i know i am old, but at their age, we went out to some dive bar and drank $3-5 pitchers of beer. and, gambling consisted of playing cards at someone's house and maybe losing $20-30. i can only assume they are not making mortgage payments and raising kids.

notes i also wonder how these "kids" can afford the payments on their BMW's and Mercedes Benz's.

Mommy and daddy play a big part. Especially in money country up north here ( not in my blue collar neighborhood though.). Also these " kids " want everything now. Not to wait years like we did of hard work, junky cars , and or rents until we had enough to put down on a house. Many today do not care to ever own. Quite happy paying 2k a month or more for apt rentals or they double up with each other. Not thinking about the future that is for sure. Many have big credit card debt by age 25 and think nothing of 9 bucks a drink or 5 or 6 of them along with smokes, video games and who knows what else. I don't even want to know.

That sure sounds like me in my 20s and early 30s. I was just short of 50 when I first set foot in a casino.

sounds like many of us had the same background.galey, those really were the best of times, didn't have much, but amazing how much fun one can have, without spending a lot. omt, like you, did not start going to a casino until age 53. my first plane ride was our honeymoon (39 years ago), our first flat was behind the dumpster to a bar- $200/mo and we made combined less than $20k first year. our entertainment was going out after softball/hoops with the wives and drinking beer. i keep reading stats how young folks are struggling with student debt and not enough jobs/wages. a couple of hundred for a casino hotel room, high priced drinks, travelling around the world for 'experiences', is costly.  .

Oh I definitely think we are all on the same wavelength here. Funny when you mentioned your first flat, I was thinking of the time I got one heading to my first job interview after UCONN. Since I couldn't get a white collar job right away, I was on my way to our local junkyard when the balding and rotted tire went on my old ford. The spare was just as bad, but somehow I got there somewhat covered in dirt and grease. Got hired though. Guess I looked the part. Only worked there 6 months until something in my field came along, but I still enjoyed that job more than my career. Speaking of rents and entertainment, ours was 165/mo incl heat and hot water. Entertainment was the beach, the old cheap movie theatre or Drive In, a local watering hole where pony beers were still a dime, or just crusing around in one of my beat up old convertibles. We were happy, laughed a lot, and never really longed for anything fancy like the kids today. After awhile though, the Mrs. got tired of the board covering the spring in the old couch that was given to us. We got a new one at a bankruptcy hotel auction for sixty bucks. ( Bright Gold ). Edited to add....our first washer ( no dryer ) was from a local tag sale for ten bucks. My lawnmowers were always those that were pushed out to the curb for trash pickup. I fixed them up and they usually lasted for years. Actually, I still use one of my neighbor's throwaway mowers to this day.

I think it's funny how both you (Notes) and Olds remember how much your first rent payment was.  I have NO recollection of that at all but remember how our first apartment was close to my favorite Mexican Restaurant. lololol   Funny, at the time we moved in I didn't like Mexican Food.   and OF COURSE....as soon as we moved away that same one became MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT...  Got off thread, sorry...NOT  lolololol
