State of AC gaming regulators

Post by DaBurglar »

So upon completion of my AC gaming complaint regarding the major discrepancy in how a slot cash award was distributed, I can now emphatically state that the level of oversight of the remaining NJ casinos is pathetic. It took almost a month for my simple, very small, "issue" to be resolved.    Years past, this never would have even seen the light of day, when agents were in the casinos 24/7.     Now you have a single agent responsible for two casinos, and doing so from a desk in a office 2 hours away (that's what you have now adays, according to the agent who handled my case.....she is responsible for all complaints to resorts and ballys.)    Unlike some other people here, I do not automatically believe in the altruistic good nature of casinos and the people that run them....I believe that like all companies in the business of making a profit, casinos will do whatever they can GET away with to make as much money as they can.   WHo disagrees with that priniciple first off?Second, since it is now evident and obvious that AC has very little in house, in-casino oversight, and since myself and several other people on this forum (maybe more than several) have seen AC video poker to be atrociously bad, its looking more and more like the video poker in AC may indeed be skewed afterall.I think I know what my next complaint will be about.......

If people have thoughts of video poker being in fact skewed, a logical person may be open to asking: Then why play video poker there if you think it is skewed?

If people have thoughts of video poker being in fact skewed, a logical person may be open to asking: Then why play video poker there if you think it is skewed? How many more times are you going to keep repeating this question while simultaneously refusing to accept the answer(s) to that question that have been provided NUMEROUS times before?      You question is in fact a thinly veiled condescending red herring-esque potshot.......it vastly oversimplifies and glosses over the important issues at work in this situation. For the sake of others here who may have missed it though, I will repeat the gist of  the answer:1) I have reduced very significantly my total video poker play and no longer make it the primary gaming activity of any and all AC gaming trips;   This has been the case for some time now, roughly since late 2014 or so, whereby I now focus on LIVE poker (which I enjoy a lot, which offers a different experience but a lot more "VALUE" in terms of time spent on the casino floor, and which I happen to be pretty good.)    Live poker also allows a lot more human interaction so it makes for good conversation, funny stories and friendship too.     Thus, i did the bulk of my Video poker playing in AC from mid 2009 thru mid 2014, a little more than 5 years.......during that time I formed the opinions that I did regarding the video poker being offered in AC, especially when compared to the STANDARD of casino experience and gaming, LAs Vegas (and Nevada in general!)    Vegas and Nevada are known too for the seriousness & professionalism of their own casino control commission, and gaming oversight in Nevada is a  <cue Donald trump> "HUGELY, HUGELY BIG.......deal...."     This stands in complete and stark contrast to what now exists in AC.   'nuff said2)   COGNITIVE DISSONANCE:    Even though I was experiencing horrible video poker results in AC from 2009 - 2014,  along the way as the statistics became more and more skewed and as I started complaining (i.e.  WHINING),  other players here were trying to refute the conclusions I started drawing by providing very sound and clear arguments to the contrary of what I was concluding.    They insisted I was just going through a VERY long, dark  "ROUGH patch", that the stats would soon turn around and balance out  and that all I had to do was stick it out.....so, the logical reasonable side of me, STUCK WITH IT through the years like 2012 and 2013!     I really was hoping to be proven wrong in my conviction that AC video poker is NOT the same as everywhere else (especially nevada)3)   I love, and continue to Love AC.  The city, the ocean, the boardwalk, the layout, the handicap accessibility.....ALL these factors are important (Hugely so) for me, and hence allow for a measure of tolerance when putting up with stingy games......

AC has a tremendous layout. I wish that I had availed myself of a brief $20 boardwalk massage today. It would have been so much nicer than a -$26 PM session. The Progressive was only $1,090, so no great urgency either. You stay and resume play, you pay.

Man, you guys should have been vp players in AC back in the late 90's and early 2000's. Plenty of 100% opportunities.

Lovely day today. Just skew it! I got a major beating at Bally's. But next door, an unprecedented five quads in under three hours. Between sessions, I made a one hand grab of a beer cozy thrown from a float in the St. Patrick's Day parade on the boardwalk. Slainte!
My only regret was leaving a machine that a morbidly obese Seven Star man hit a Straight Flush on. Even when I win I lose.

I would love to get down there sometime this year in the nice weather and maybe meet you, ( FAA ), DB, Doris, and the rest of the A/C gang. Put politics aside, grab some good food and drink, and maybe take over a bank of machines and all play in one area. Maybe when the Mrs. gets out of school and my brother can fill in for me to help out with my dad. I'm definitely keeping it on the back burner and hoping to move it to the front.

Maybe when the Mrs. gets out of school and my brother can fill in for me to help out with my dad. I'm definitely keeping it on the back burner and hoping to move it to the front.that would be great, and I would love to do this too....mostly, i would like the chance to show doris I am not the evil troll she is convinced I am.....perhaps some of you guys can do this on my behalf.   I've totally forgiven her for whatever she has said against me, and I would like very much to get to know her......Olds, to help you with specifics and logistics, here is some info:   Taking the bus (greyhound) from Hartford to AC, you are looking at a itinerary that takes you from Hartford to the NYC port Authority ( a 2 hour 45 minute ride,  depending on traffic, time of day and bus driver experience/initiative), followed by a layover in NYC of at least 30 minutes, where you then hop on a bus to go to AC, with the NYC-TO-AC schedule operating on a every 30-60 minutes frequency a bus departs NYC for one of the remaining AC destinations (every casino except Borgata and Golden Nugget receives Bus loads, with Ballys being by far the most numerous and frequent destinations.)   The trip from NYC to AC is about 2 hours and 15 minutes, again, depending on traffic and weather and all that......You will receive a Casino BUS coupon that gives you 25 bucks, 35 at the TAJ, in slot play (so if you buy a ticket in hartford during the weekdays, it will probably cost you 65 bucks roundtrip for the "CASINO RATE", a little more, 72 bucks or so,  if you buy it on a weekend)    If you drove to NYC and then got on the bus, the ticket is 37 bucks roundtrip NYC-AC.So your total TRAVEL TIME is roughly 6-7 hours EACH way......if you left first thing in the morning (by 8am) you'd be in AC by 3 pm......you check in for at least one night, stay, play, eat, meet greet, then check out the following day by noon, say your goodbyes and exit AC to come back home by 2pm, you'd be home by 9pm that evening.    SO you'd in effect be gone from home for a total time of LESS than 48 hours, if you simply did the MINIMUM of a one day/night visit to meet up with any and all of us who could attend.    Obviously, if you can manage to stay longer and stretch it out , the more time you'd have to meet & greet & eat etc without the stress or worry of being under the gun.    I'm just trying to help you see the possibility & feasibility (or NOT)....only you ultimately can know if and how this will all work out for you.      Either way, I for one would like very much to meet you in AC with others.......keep in mind too, that I have  in the past, and WILL in the future, be at Foxwoods & mohegan so  as much as you can, try to announce when you plan on being in either of those places so that I can possibly make something happen with that......

Thanks for the info DB. Unless I have a new car by then, I would probably just rent a nice car and drive down for a couple of days with the Mrs. I don't have many points, but I have been in touch with Resorts and I can use my Mohegan Sun credit there. If I remember, I even set up an account with them last year. Just haven't used it. As to Mohegan, unfortunately, my schedule up there due to family commitments probably is the opposite of yours for the most part. For instance, I plan to head up there tonight, but won't get there until 10 or 11 pm and have to head home right after breakfast tomorrow morning. If I hit something good early, I probably would just grab a shower and quick nap and even head home real late tonight. Eventually, barring health issues, that schedule will change, but for now, making sure all is well with dad at home is the priority. We'll stay in touch though.

Edited to add....this site is full of intelligent and insightful people. Many with a great sense of humor. We also have our share of rogue scholars here and lifetimes of experiences and stories to share. Too bad everyone is so spread out most of the time. We have lots in common other than vp.
