We have a similar situation in Kansas City.  We have played at the Ameristar (origanlly opened by Station Casino's) since it opened.  We use to be able to take a hundred bucks each and play for several hours.  We went home with money in our pockets many times.  Since Ameristar bought it the win percentage has kept going lower and lower.  It's a great looking casino with great places to eat, movie theaters, etc. - BUT it's very hard to survive an hour on a hundred bucks.  We've gotten to know many VP players over the years, and of course we talk.  Everyone's story is the same - you can't win there anymore.  Instead of going 3-4 times a week, we go only 3-4 times a month.  You can't keep playing with your own money - you have to win sometimes.  Their attendance figures are way down.  When will they wake up?  Also, they say VP is a game of skill, so they have greatly reduced their comps.

Although my response was for fourdcs I believe it may also be relevant ... in a different way. You should mention too the racino management that they should "better" the Tunica paytables if they want to attract new customers. This may have a side effect of removing some of the chips that may somehow be gaffed (unintentionally).

I read a letter in Casino magazine about the New York Racinos and how they are set. It is run by a lottery system so if you are playing V.P., your skill has nothing to do with the payout. The way they explained it was there are predetermined layers of cards that show up and if you get the layer that is due for a win, then you win. Does that make sense to anyone? Perhaps that is what's happening in the racino....

FourdcsDon't know how I missed this back in September.  AmeriStar in KC has NO full pay VP.  They have been lowering them for the past couple of years until now, they are nothing short of dismal.  Yet, it is a very nice hotel and eatery.  Isle of Capri has added several full pay All American Poker machines and some full pay pick-em.  I think that if IOC is not careful, they will end up gathering AmeriStar's clientèle.  But as for AmeriStar, they have nothing really for me any more.  $5 blackjack maybe, but you can find games as good as theirs almost anywhere so that just leaves the ultra nice rooms that are not hard to comp.

That's good to know as our friends want to go up above St.Louis and do some bike riding and then we can stay at one of the casinos. We did visit the IoC just south of Tunica. It was a really pathetic place. I actualy felt sorry for the folks working there. It had a casino to the side (attached to the main building) whose name I forget, that only had 4 VP machines. Couldn't believe it! Also there was NOBODY playing in the whole place. We walked thru the building over to the main area of IoC and finally found a room with a few sorry vP machines. Won't go there again!!
We are headed to Tunica this Saturday. I'll get to play Sat. night at the Sheraton. Luck!!  Danny

This was already checked out (covered in another thread). Supposely they are games of skill (class III) as required by the new Arkansas law and therefore could not be class II machines like those in NY.
