I play a lot of VP and I've had many Royals through the years, but I do change machines. The numbers may say otherwise but if I sit at a machine and it sucks up $40 without any return I move on. Sometimes nothing pays, other days I stay up really late playing because everything hits and I know how rare this is.
Anyway, it's good to get up and stretch every once in awhile.

I've gotten stubborn and stayed a bit beyond forty. I've got to start following this rule myself. Forty and Flee. The machine is obviously in an epic cold cycle and you simply must get the hell out of there or else your next machine will be transportation home!

I was just trying to make a couple of points. According to intelligent players, all play is continuos, you can decide if you believe that or not.

All hoppers are not looking for a hot machine, some just do not like pouring more and more money down the same machine. I/m/o, some machines, when I play them, are simply not going to hit anything. I can find myself going on 'tilt', so i move often to avoid that.

I may not believe the machines are completely random, but I also believe there is no way to know what cards are coming or if a machine is about to hit.

See, I am now of the conviction that, IN AC at least, in certain casinos, there is a  MIX of machines that are as follows:     Some of the machines are completely and totally LEGIT and exactly what we experienced & skilled video poker players EXPECT them to be (i.e. 100% random with statistically NORMAL results);       Some of the machines  are 'set' to return a spectrum of results that are NOT statistically "NORMAL" whereby the return % of that machine is dictated by the paytable, but instead the return% and the results are skewed in excess of the implied results of the paytable(s).       And finally, SOME of the machines may actually be 'set' to FAVOR the player, for obvious short term benefits and objectives (i.e. to entice the player(s) to return, or gamble MORE and in greater dollar amounts and for longer durations, etc. etc.)           Again, this is ONLY in AC (in my view and opinion!)     To answer the obvious question as to WHY would the casinos do things this way instead of the theoretically 'normal' manner that should yield profit to them in the long run, the answer(s) are varied and controversial....but one must keep in mind the backdrop of a failing marketplace, failing CITY  & Failing gaming industry (miserably failing it now seems), with the STATE of NJ mo longer willing (or able) to take even modest palliative measures any more on behalf of Atlantic City;       A near complete and  total reduction in actual Regulatory oversight and monitoring of NJ casinos by the actual NJ gaming commission, which would ALLOW casinos to go ahead and 'se't a certain specific number of their video poker machines to return a percent Highter than the stated & implied paytable,       There are other & more reasons.......let's see if anyone else could deduce what they might be......

Royals are hard to come by. 42k to 1. Dealt royal about 640k to 1. In casinos I have had 1 dealt royal on quarter triple play for 3k and another for 1k. Also a dealt royal on the 2nd deal after holding none. Good Luck you will get your share of royals if you keep playing!

For me Royals come in cycles. Don't be surprised when after finally getting one, another one is around the corner. My sister-in-law has also never got one. She goes to Vegas on average 3 times a year for over 25 years. Also if I'm comfortable at a losing machine instead of moving on I rotate games, speed up or slow down my play but if it's a slow night with a lot of open machines I will hop around just because I can.
