Welcome to the forum. We need a whole lot more information.
Games you play, pay tables, single or multihands, how many hours each trip., etc.

Assuming you are playing even close to right, hitting royal flushes is about the number of hands you play.   Anyone can get lucky or unlucky, but the average for most single line games is about one every 40,000 hands.  That's a lot of hands for a player who may only go to the casino when the feeling is right.  My wife and I average about 3-4 a year, but we play every week and take frequent video poker vacations where we may play for a week solid.  You'll get one some day.  Good Luck!

I play every week, but for only about a quarter to a third of FP's session time. I average one a year. It was last week. One is the loneliest number.

Yes. If you can expect a RF cycle about 1 in 40,000 hands. And you go play once in awhile, and play, let's say, 500 hands an hour...do the math. It may take some time. That's one of the reasons I criticize the "island hopper" players who go to machine to machine looking for the "hot" one. Huge time waster. But we need them to put the money in the machines so casinos can keep the good vp.
Cheers

DAA, I enjoy your posts. Couple of questions. We know VP is supposed to be random, but what is the advantage of you sitting at only one machine, which may be at the beginning of a 'cycle', hoping for a RF, and someone who 'hops' around, hoping to find a machine that is closer to giving the royal?

You have been in Vegas for some time now, with access to the best pay tables. What is your net results, including the results of free play, but not counting any other perks.

the "island hopper" players who go to machine to machine looking for the "hot" one.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I actually thing they are the smartest guys in the place. It takes energy and discipline, but they have a better chance of finding their mark. If it swallows a quick $15, that is a bad omen. Before you know it you are down $50 or $60 and regretting your laziness and stubbornness. A quad will only return half your losses. Enjoy.

I confess to being an Island Hopper.  My casino of choice only has six VP machines with the better pay table, so my hops aren't that big of a move.  I don't think the machine knows anything about what part of a cycle it's in and I'm sure it has nothing to do with the hands it spits out.  However, it does make me feel better.

I don't know about the cycle theory. I have had three stints with no royals in over 500k hands each in the last 3 years. I do very little Island hopping. You would think I would have connected a few times during those stretches. Especially since my sessions average 8-12 hours at 600 hands per hour. I am actually switching casinos as we speak just in case it is not my bad luck and something else in their programs. I will find out soon when I start playing at Foxwoods.

You have been in Vegas for some time now, with access to the best pay tables. What is your net results, including the results of free play, but not counting any other perks.DAA  did not yet respond to notes1 excellent question(s).....I'm going to expand on this a little.....This whole concept of  "Island Hopping"  (General Douglas MacArthur would not be please knowing his brilliant military strategy was now being applied to casino gambling & video poker) , as well as looking for the so-called   "HOTT GAME  or MACHINE"    is all 100% contradictory to how video poker is SUPPOSED TO WORK (and according to all the orthodox defenders of the integrity of casinos and the games actually DOES WORK.)Simply put, any VP player who sits down at any given machine at ANY time, is supposed to have the exact same chance of catching a ROYAL (or whatever other hand you want to focus on)  as any other time.......it is absolutely NOT SUPPOSED TO MATTER.And yet, look at how people behave & play and react in casinos.......But, as many of you know, I am a believer in the POSSIBILITY that sometimes, in SOME casinos, with SOME Video Poker games, this concept or notion of things ALWAYS being the same ALL THE TIME  is not in fact the reality.    Modern Video Poker machines/games do have the capacity and utilities to be "modified" or "adjusted" so that, for whatever reason or circumstances, the results CAN be manipulated.      I believe this does currently happen in AC, whereas in Vegas I believe this is almost not possible or non-existent simply because Nevada oversight and regulation of its casinos is so competent and honest  it prevents such a thing from happening with any scale or regularity!   Not so in scandal plagued, corruption-infested, incompetence addled, on-its-way-out,  Atlantic City
