Free Play update. In March I made two trips to the IP in Biloxi. On the first trip about half my play was 9/6 JoB. On the second trip all of my play was 9/6 Job. I just received my mailer for May. My free play dropped from $15 a week to $10 after I play $10.This happened even though my total coin in was more in March than it had been at any point in the last six months. Until March I had played 9/5 DDB and airport deuces, but no 9/6 Jacks.I will try playing my free play on slots for a few months and report back. It's not just the size of the mailers that's important. It's the cash back or free play from the club (if any) + mailers - expected loss on the game.Changing from 9/5 DDB to 9/6 JoB gives you about 1.5% more in EV. If you normally play $10K a trip, the change in EV is worth $150. That fact that your mailers went down from $15 to $10 is small change for an increase in EV of $150Be careful about listening to advice from FP. You're doing quite a bit better  video poker than he is.
Bob, I understand that all of the factors you mention must be factored in to one's decision making. I have started playing 9/6 JoB because it has only recently become available for quarters in Biloxi and it is now the best available quarter paytable (previously airport deuces was the best). I will be playing this game a lot regardless of the size of my mailers. Also, I appreciate your feedback and suggestions on using free play on slots as well as other answers to some of my previous questions.Additionally I respect your knowledge of Video Poker and advantage play and I also enjoy listening to Gambling with an Edge. However, I would ask that you not assume that I am unable to discern the value and intention of different opinions. I read FloridaPhil's reply to my post as a friendly comment about using a players card and not as an authority figure giving advice. I have always believed that FP is nice person who enjoys playing and talking about video poker and I have never thought that he presents himself as an expert. I often enjoy his posts and reading his thoughts and I have no interest in getting brought into the dispute that exists between the two of you.Thank you again for the slot suggestion. I will try it for a few months and see if there is any change to my mailers.
I often enjoy his posts and reading his thoughts and I have no interest
in getting brought into the dispute that exists between the two of you.
Thanks for the nice comments.  You are right, I am just a recreational play who likes playing video poker strictly as a hobby.  I also have a pile of Dancer books, most of them worn and dog eared.  Bob Dancer has significantly tilted the video poker landscape to the benefit of players, that we can be thankful for.  Unfortunately, the world is now full of advantage players which has caused odds to drop all over the country.  On the plus side he has generated a huge interest in video poker.  At the casinos where I play, all the video poker games are busy most of the time and it's amazing how many of those players know something about the Dancer strategy. There is no doubt that Bob Dancer makes a profit from video poker alone, how much nobody knows.  He had a tremendous run of luck years ago and it propelled him into his current career.  I believe he makes the majority of his money promoting video poker not playing it.  The dream that you can do what he claims to do is what drives his personal money machine.  I have no problem stating that on this forum and he doesn't like it.  I get that, what I don't get is his consistent negative posts about anyone who disagrees with him on this forum.  Bob Dancer is a marketer and a damn good one.  If he is as successful playing video poker as he claims to be, he wouldn't be wasting his time taking shots at some retired guy in Florida.   The fact that he does just reinforces my beliefs about him and his claims.

It might look like that to you that I'm picking on everybody. I'm not. In this particular case you suggested Mr. Dawes play without a slot club card. In this particular case, this was a very bad idea. He'll net considerably less following your suggestion than he would using a card.It isn't that I'm picking on an old retired guy from Florida. It's that I'm suggesting that playing without a card in this case would be a mistake. I'm also suggesting that playing 99.5% games successfully is an experience you do not have and that in general, it's a bad idea to take gambling advice from losing players who do not have any experience in what they are advising about. What part of this don't you get?

I do recall Mr. Dawes is also playing to earn Sapphire tier membership on BConnected. Do pay attention to the points accrual rate while playing, I did see a much reduced rate reported on the casino's vpFREE page. If the Sapphire tier of B Connected carries much value, it might be wise to play the quarter 8/6 Bonus Poker Deluxe. The Airport Deuces also seem to have reduced point accrual rate.

I did not intend to throw a twist to this discussion, but recently people are reporting that their offers from Boyd Gaming places in Vegas are being reduced. It may be the reason Mr. Dawes saw a drop in the mailer. I have seen my offer from Boyd Vegas property reduced as well, I used to get small amount ($25) of free play/food credit along with free hotel stay, but now it is just only free hotel stay. Still good enough for me as I need lodging in Vegas, I do want to avoid staying at The Luxor even I still get free stays there, but have to pay the resort fee for a place with not too much amenities.

I doubt using free play on a slot at Boyd property would do anything, I do not think they use the ADT system to rate mailers, I think it is the curve system or by actual loss amount since winners have been cut off on their mailers.

If you have a YAHOO! account, you can view this particular discussion on the VPFree bulletin board
What part of this don't you get?
I am wondering the same thing about you.  I do not want to be in a constant sparing match with you.  I've made it very clear to everyone on this forum that I am not giving advice to anyone.  All I did was make a comment, you took it as advice.  If you think my ideas stink say so, but you don't need to add your personal jabs.  No matter what I post, you always seem to turn it around like we're in some weird contest to see who can be the biggest jerk.   How about toning it down a bit?  I'm bored with the whole war of words thing and I'm sure everyone else is too.
