In January, I broke up and three deuce wild Royal to go for the fourth deuce. I figured I was assured of a 20 coin payout and had a shot at getting the deuce, getting five of a kind, or getting another royal. Did some rough math and figured keeping it was the better play, but how many chances do you get like this.
Of course it popped up. That trip they were an almost daily occurrence.

I do not intend to hijack other folk's threads as it is for the DDB lovers, but here goes. According to Video Poker for Winners, the number of occurrences of being dealt a Wild Royal in the form of 3 Deuces is 160.

Thus 160 / 2598960 -> 1 in about 16244 dealt hands on average.

Holding 3 Deuces will bring an average return of 14 for 1 payout (depends on the payschedule). The Wild Royal is 25 for 1 payout.

When playing max 5 coins and going for the quad deuces instead of holding the Wild Royal, you are giving up at least 50 coins on average. I would say that is an enormous error even if you are not playing the game seriously. A $12 mistake everytime in quarters.

I know that. I knew at the time it wasn't the right move,although I did t realize just how bad. It's only a mistake if you repeat it.In this case ,it was a learning experience. I don't I tend to repeat it.

Dealt FH with three 2,3,4 in DDB - keep the FH. In TDB, hold the low three cards and go for the quad. Dealt 9,10,J,Q,K - I always keep the SF. Dealt A,K,Q,J and another face card - with how freakin tight casinos have got lately I'm tempted to just keep the damn pair... but my stinkin conscience always gets the better of me.
