I'm Playing Ultimate 4 on this site...and bragging

Post by DaBurglar »

<Begin Bragging>My last AC trip was an 8 (06-01 . 06-08) day roller coaster of awesome hits interspersed among the usual litany of cold, dead spells .... but I managed to end the trip well on the plus side due to several exceptionally big hits, something that RARELY happens with my VP play in AC.   During this trip my "favorite" hit was actually NOT my largest;  it was when I was playing Ultimate four of a kind, SINGLE LINE, at Harrahs.    I hit four deuces (was dealt 3, caught the fourth) for 400 credits and earned 2 picks at the BONUS game board.   On Harrahs Single line game, the day I was playing, the 53 cards on the bonus game broke down something like this:Aces = 400 (typical for all versions of this game)2s, 3s, 4s = 285 (very generous, usually these cards are around 240 credits, plus or minus 5 credits on the MULTI-LINE versions of ULTIMATE 4OAK)5s - Ks = 215 (again, on the Multiline Version, it is usually 200 credits)Joker = 3996 (or $999, obviously meant to eliminate hand pays when the player catches 3 aces for 3 bonus picks!  On Multi line version, Joker is an even 4000)Anyway, I found the Joker on my second pick, and this was the most fun of all my BIG hits during the 8 days in AC.I was just playing Multi line Ultimate 4 of a kind here on this site, caught four kings on one of my 5 lines in DDB so I received one (1) Bonus game pick......AND I FOUND THE JOKER AGAIN FOR 4000 imaginary credits!!!!   Boooo yah......<End Bragging>

It's weird, I never have that kind of good fortune, which is why lately I had been emphasizing real LIVE Poker over video poker, simply because in Live Poker you have far more control over your destiny and SKILL is a far bigger component.I have long felt that applying the word "Skill" to video poker is absurd and deceptive.....perhaps this is due to the fact that Memorization has always come easy to me (good thing to, since I was F.A.B and compelled to rely on my brain to survive in this world), and in Video poker, that is really the only component needed for success that is in the player's control (along with Bankroll management)......the rest of VP is luck/timing.Nonetheless, when I caught my last bevy of great, awesome hands/hits in AC last week, I 'skillfully' hit the deal/draw button numerous times, 'skillfully' hit CASHOUT at the appropriate time(s), 'skillfully' inserted my vouchers into the ubiquitous T.I.T.O. machines in the casinos, and 'skillfully' put the money in my wallet or room safe.

live poker has a different set of skills: game selection, table selection, card room selection,as well of playing or not playing each hand, i play more live poker as well as option writing in the stock market as those provide advantage plays. we must evolve withe the changing times i started out playing 21 as it was beatable. video poker does provide a few opportunities the "experts" make their money from selling their products

Congrats, ya lucky bastid!!!

HA!   Thanks, but I am not "lucky"....I am still way way behind these last few years in terms of overall hits and performance and bottom line, etc etc.I need many more outings like I just had in AC to begin to call myself "lucky" or (monetarily) successful at Video Poker.

Bay area or Los Angeles), etc etc.Me personally, if I was ever bored or crazy enough with the rest of my life that I resolved to focus ONLY on poker, I would most likely choose either Reno  or  A.C. as my primary base of operations, with a few expeditions to Las vegas for specific, high value Tournaments and such......Vegas as a base for ME, right now, would not be my top choice:   Too big, and overwhelming, too many distractions, too much possible stress, too extreme of a climate, etc.    Reno and AC are far more manageable in those terms, and yet they are both large enough with enough action and potential to make success possible.

Just out of curiosity: what bankroll besides the initial entry fee, is needed for tournament poker play?

Just out of curiosity: what bankroll besides the initial entry fee, is needed for tournament poker play?

He is talking about playing multiple tournaments over time, so a bankroll of more than 1 entry fee is important. The appropriate number depends on buy-in size, field size, and payout structures.

Back in the online poker days, for larger tournaments, I think they suggested close to 100 buy-ins for a moderately successful winner to not go broke very often. For Single Table Tournaments, they suggested closer to 30 buy-ins. Not sure about live play as much.

Vman how do you KNOW that the poster is talking about playing multiple tournaments over TIME? I was hoping for an answer from the ORIGINAL poster who made the STATEMENT.

The original POSTER spoke of LIVE poker and not onLine poker.

To add: I am fully aware that DaBurglar will now claim that Vman was spot on even though it is apparent that isn't the case.

Are you insinuating that he has only played one No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament in his life and will never play again? He's already described playing in more than one on this site in the past.

You apparently don't know what the word "Bankroll" means in the Texas Hold'em world. What you are trying to suggest is akin to someone just needing $5 to play one 5-credit hand of dollar video poker and calling that their "Bankroll".

But you do have one thing right, he will agree with me, but not for the reason you want.
