I play with my card all the time and I always am able to get 1 or 2 weekend nights pretty much whenever I want (AC, the TAJ). Also bonus coin and admittance to a players club. I have also gotten some really nice gifts, Emeril cookware, DVD players, etc. Certainly worth it since it doesnt take much effort to use the card. Also if u do use it and u dont get offers u can call and talk to a host and they will tell u what u r eligable for. Oh I also played with a card in the Venetian and have gotten offers for multiple free weekend nites, tickets to phantom and more! And Im not a high roller. VP for .25 pretty much with a little dollar and penny and quarter slots.

I play with a card in all the time also. For the small amount of time it takes to sign up it seems worth it. Only been playing Vp in casinos for the last 3 years and only made my first trip to LV 2 years ago. but I caught on quickly to the fact that it`s coin in that the casino looks at and that my meager bankroll was best concentrated a particular casino. We paid for that first trip out of pocket...not paid for a room since local or LV.
A side point..at most casino properties I have one account but two cards so wife and I play on same account. That helps to up the coin in for sure and the resulting comps. I have yet to be turned down when I ask for something be it free meal , room change. Our last trip we were leaving on a redeye flight (10PM) and I simply called and ask if we could have the room for and extra night. made it nice to have abase of operations for the day rather than leaving the bags at bell captain and roaming like zombies all day

I try to play good strategy whenever I play and I would say I come out ahead 75% of the time. Of course I practice a lot at home and have read quite a few books on VP by many different authors. I enjoy playing and of course winning, however, even if you play perfect strategy you won't always win. VP is like a hobby for me and learning to play it properly enhances the experience. It's a real rush when you hit a RF or a quad.

Hey vpguy3 ,

What is the best book you have read on video poker.
I would like to read it.

A basic "how to" on VP is "Video Poker and Slots for the Winner" by Marten Jensen. It discusses all the basics including paytables and strategy for different games. Unfortunately, this one doesn't have anything on the newer games including some of the multi-play but it's a good "primer" on VP if you're just getting into it. There are tons of others out there so shop around at any bookstore and you'll find one you like. I also enjoyed Million Dollar Video Poker by Bob Dancer; this one's more a "how he did it" than "how to do it" but it's an entertaining read.

OEJ, not sure which "midwest" casinos you're going to, but some of them do in fact have policies in place where they won't tell you your comp balance.  The largest casino closest to the Twin Cities in Minnesota has that exact policy.
I don't agree with it, but I work it as best I can.  You can play the, "Do I have enough to get a $x.xx comp?" game to try and find out where you're sitting.  Worst case is you'll be denied, but if you're giving a casino action, they'll usually hook you up with at least a little bit in return.

I never play without having my card in the machine that I am playing.

I forgot who old O ne E yed J acks 719 was, but he had quite a few no-nonsense quips when someone was trying to blow smoke.
