Bob Dancer's Video Poker Classes at the Southpoint

Post by alpax »

I've heard the announcement for the past two weeks now on the GamblingWithAnEdge supersite and during the commercial break on the radio show with regards to the second semester of video poker courses (in the 2016 calendar year) that will be commencing on August 10 at the SouthPoint Casino. It will be held on every Wednesday and the classes are free of cost and everyone at least 21 years old is welcome to these.

Since Mr. Dancer is on hiatus from this forum, I thought I would post it in case people want to plan ahead to attend these courses.

One important thing to note is that the location of the classroom has changed, it is not at the Grandview Lounge, it will be held at the Silverado Lounge.

The course schedule is posted online at

http://bobdancer.com/seminars

A few changes that I see is that 9/6 Bonus Poker is added. Quick Quads is no longer DDB because of the downgrade that happened earlier this year. The Ultimate X course is Airport Deuces rather than DDB; the possibility of people losing $25,000 on a 10-play quarter denomination is realistic because of the extremely high variance (Mr. Dancer being an expert VP player has mentioned about losing $100,000 in a year at the Palms playing $1 10-play DDB).

The Grandview was a nice location, but it was right next to a bar that allowed cigar smoke and that bothered some people. It was also a bit bigger than necessary. As someone who had led more than a few seminars/classes, it's best to keep the students compact instead of sprawling out.

Thanks for doing the legwork alpax.

Not a problem Ted. I've never been to a course since it is hard to find time off in the middle of the week, but it seems Mr. Dancer takes these seminars seriously and makes the time worthwhile to the students.

Interesting to hear about that, I too would be bothered and not be able to concentrate either. Same with temperature if the space got too warm. I might have heard this on the commercial break of GWAE (the only part I normally tune into) but not for certain, that the relocation purpose was that the Grandview lounge was going to be preoccupied for other things during the Summer/Fall.

It must be odd to you that Mr. Dancer referenced people in class about this site, and they will find folks who drove him to take another hiatus from the site.

It's strange. On blackjack.com in its day, we had many of the worlds top players- Rich Munkin, Grosjean, Zen Grifter, Fred Renzey,Bojack and many authors.
Newcomers would show up with zany concepts of how to play and they'd get schooled. Those who wanted to learn stuck
around. Those who didn't almost always left, often in disgrace.
Contrast that to here.

Perhaps you would like to build a wall to keep them out?  People play video poker for many different reasons.  We all don't have the same goals and because of that we all don't use the same strategies.I think the real reason Mr. Dancer left this forum had nothing to do with strategy.  Mr. Dancer is a businessman and he knows very well that the illusion of making millions playing video poker is a powerful sales tool.  Unfortunately, his answer to questions he doesn't like is to always respond with personal insults and degradation.  When some forum members rebelled against this tactic, he folded.I think this forum should be an open discussion of all things video poker, not an exclusive advertising billboard for Bob Dancer's products and services.  No member should be called zany, stupid, ignorant, lacking in discipline or leave in disgrace because their motivation for playing video poker is different than yours.  Mr. Dancer could coexist with all members of the video poker community if he would stop trying to beat up everyone with his narrow view of the game.

Nothing set in stone yet, but there is an outside chance I could attend one of these. Problem is it would be on my g/f's birthday, and it's a game I really know pretty well. :( 9/6 JoB multi strike would teach me something really new...haha

And is he doing deuces ultimate-x as a change-up? VPFree2 says that 9/6 DDB UX is still there...

There are very few notable video poker experts out there. I would say Mr. Dancer is easily the most noteworthy, some felt this forum was even lucky to have him willing to participate.

I have read past threads on this site from years back with the search terms, the quality of the discussions were much better back then. People talked about casino's video poker inventory and their comps a lot more, they also cared about learning all the right holds. The vast majority of them seem to be gone now.

It is becoming harder to find 9/6 JoB Multistrike, I caught the vpfree update where the Gold Coast just downgraded their offering near the bowling alley. If playing for real stakes, it does require a substantial bankroll as you have to bet all four levels to get the full benefit of 99.79% return. Most of the time you end up with less than the 20 credit bet by not being able to get past level 1. Mr. Dancer reminds people it is a 24/7 positive game with the Club Card available at the Southpoint.

I am guessing there is no 9/6 DDB Ultimate X because of the variance and the potential jackpots can force management to take it out like they did with DDB Quick Quads. 5 Play on the Video Poker Pocket mobile application says 99.79% return, so those that can grind it out with time and money can also find another positive play. I would say 9/7 TDB would be better alternative to Ultimate X, but people love volatity and the casino loathes it.

I do recall in the past Mr. Dancer saying that even if you know a certain game well, that you will still learn something new by showing up to a class. It is during the afternoon, perhaps you can sell the fact that you are meeting a video poker icon and will make it up to your significant other during dinner/night time.

I would like to propose a solution to this problem.  Let's change the title of the Strategy Forum to the Bob Dancer Strategy Forum where all discussion will be limited to praising him and his methodologies and no dissension of any kind will be allowed.  This is what Mr. Dancer wants anyway and I'm sure he will be willing to return.  I am more than willing to refrain from posting in that section if it would help the forum.  I don't care how anyone plays video poker.  I do care if someone attacks me or another forum member for their strategy beliefs alone.  It's up to you what kind of forum you want.  Let's stop the bickering and get on with the game.
