does not answer why the upright machines in smoking are full, but the upright machines in n/s are empty. n/s indeed have a choice.

I can't answer that question.  I can only speak for myself.  I play next to smokers all the time.  I prefer not too, but sometimes I have no choice.  Some casinos have better ventilation than others, Hollywood is one of them.  Tampa is among the worst.  The absolute worst we have ever seen is the Silver Slipper in Bay St. Louis MS.  You can cut their air with a knife.   This is understandable given the education level of the local players.

I have found the machine selection in non-smoking sections to be poorer than the offerings in smoking sections.

I could care less if a person smokes. But the last time I checked: when God created Adam, Adam didn't come out with a Marlboro between his lips. Therefore, non-smokers were here before smokers. Full disclosure: I am a lifelong NON-SMOKER and will remain as such for however long I'm still on this earth and not of this earth. Why should non-smokers feel put out when in a casino? One time I politely asked a man next to me if he could simply switch the cigarette to his other hand and you'd think I asked him to cut off his hand. I felt it was a compromise we both could live by but yet I got the nasty face from the guy.

if the selection is poorer, it is because nobody is in there. if there was demand, the casinos would certainly accommodate that demand.

as far as going back to adam and eve, would you be happy if some 300 pound naked guy sat next to do. no clothing back then either.

I have nothing against smoking in private.  What a person does to their body is their own private business.  What I object to is having to endure their assault on my health when I did not ask for it.  When I was a kid all our heroes smoked and we thought it was cool.  I started smoking when I was 13 and quit in my early twenties after 3 bouts with pneumonia. I could fall over dead tomorrow, but it should be my fault and not from someone else's cigarette or cigar smoke. I'll tell you what I told a good friend of mine years ago.  He weighed about 300 pounds, smoked like a chimney, drank like a fish and chased the ladies.  I recommended he limit himself to one vice.... Pick One!    He died some time ago, but I guess he had a good time while it lasted.  He didn't play video poker, so at least he had that going for him.

The casinos should do what the Vegas airport does-- put the smokers in a glassed in room to play VP while the rest of us can watch them commit slow suicide. Yes, I am cruel, seen too many friends and relatives die from first and second hand smoke.

I never mentioned Eve and I don't believe Adam was 300 pounds because Ray Croc hadn't put a McDonalds in Eden yet. Nor Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, In and Out Burger, Dairy Queen, Burger King, or Wendy's.

My point was that: too many smokers have overlooked the fact that us non-smokers still have some rights too.

In Canada all casinos are non smoking. The casino in Windsor Canada is right across the river from Detroit. The Detroit area people fill the casino in Windsor because it offers no smoking. The Detroit casinos are all smoking. Build it and they will come.
