Taj Mahal EXACT SHUTDOWN DATE SET

Post by DaBurglar »

October 10 is the current shutdown date......I need to get in
at least two more "stays" in before then to clear out any and all
worthwhile comps and benefits that currently exist on my TRUMP Chairman
Status Account!    CRAP!!!!I wonder what, if any, of the other remaining AC casinos will be offering to former TRUMP customers/cardholders to get them to patronize THEIR casinos???   the sh*tty thing is, as there now are fewer and fewer AC casinos and direct competition, the motivation and need to offer "attractive" switch deals is lessened, since those of us who might wish to continue to visit AC are literally "STUCK" with the few remaining options (7 casinos, three of which are CET properties!!)it is my sincere hope I can parlay my TRUMP Chairman status into something "good" at Tropicana, Golden Nugget and Borgata.....an UPGRADE if you will on the current minimum status level I have at these three casinos. What on earth is the city of AC (and by extension the STATE of New JOISEE) going to do with this empty bereft, defunct CASINOS????  talk about useless eyesores!!!     They lucked out with the Showboat being reopened as a HOTEL only property......but my goodness, the TAJ is such a broken down abysmal awful mess, they seriously may need to tear it down ASAP.    The extra cost to the city/state to guard and minimally maintain these HUGE, empty monstrous casinos like the TAJ and REVEL (and the smaller but still imposing Trump Plaza and the old AC club) has got to be significant, which means they probably barely do things like regularly patrol and remove the hordes of homeless squatters who seek out these empty buildings; keep the pestilence to a minimum, since rats and other vermin LOVE such things;  prevent fires and other calamities, etc etc.     What a mess! The Steel pier, long one of AC's mainstays and iconic locations, is being taken down with the TAJ......really no way for that place to survive now.In 2011 there was a HUGE push/effort to revitalize AC.....they deregulated the oversight of the casinos DRASTICALLY;  opened the REVEL and launched the infamous "DO AC" marketing campaign:    RESULTS?Absolute friggin travesty.....gotta be one of the most pathetic, incompetent efforts EVER, anywhere, in ANYTHING!Well done Governor (and Vice prez wannabe) Christie.......that's what he gets for wanting to be the 21st century version of Hermann Goering (although he got the FAT part totally correct.)

Yes it is so sad. I hope to make it down just to see the "greatest casino on earth" one last time.

what I cannot fathom is this:As I stated in my initial post above, when these monstrosities are allowed to simply exist totally empty and depleted and unused, why cannot some "plan" be made to utilize these giant facilities in some way shape or form??Think about it......you figure between the four vacant dormant casinos (Five if you count Showboat assuming their plan falls through), you have approximately 6000 to 8000 empty unused "Studio" apartments, with several hundred larger units and suites mixed in.....I know I am wrong about the exact number, but my point is think of all the HOMELESS people & families that could or should be allowed to live there IF they abide by certain rules and minimal standards of maintenance/upkeep/work......you could solve a lot of problems at least temporarily by looking at these things along such lines....OR....more realistically and desirably.....Is it REALLY that impossible for the city and the casino powers that be that they CANNOT any longer attract enough people to come to AC to stay and play and eat and have fun etc, to the extent that simply a BREAK EVEN on these properties could be achieved??????I am serious, think about it.......you mean to tell me that it was NOT possible for the companies and owners to MASS MARKET to the area that represents a 4-6 hour or less DRIVING distance to AC, inviting ALL to come and partake of FREE ROOMS (minus of course all the "MANDATORY CRAP") so long as they "PLAY" a certain minimum of gambling action????    Of course these people would also be eating and drinking and shopping etc.......They really could NOT make it work to at least cover costs, break even and keep people employed and the things going until such time things improve????   With the time this buys you, you IMPROVE and make it more enjoyable and attractive, which then further draws in customers to the point where you can then "wean" the city off the free room gimmick and restore the place to even a modest profitable level.......UNREAL.....how incompetent and pathetic are these people (The owners, AC government, the unions.......EVERYONE!!!!!)

I agree. It seems like an asset just based on the property size. Profits don't necessarily go hand and hand with common sense practicalities. The property needs much improvements and repairs unfortunately. They keep saying ac can survive as just a resort town without casinos, but there is doubt on my part. Plus the money wouldn't be as good. If I was a billionaire, hey I would fix it up and make it a gambler's paradise, but I'm not.

I am sure that you can somehow shoehorn in two more stays! More importantly, ever more reliance on live poker at Tropicana, GN and Borgata. The only place I would play heavy VP is Borgata. Taj will be sorely missed, and I only played there once or twice with FP.

Today I am beginning to think the casino will either not close or will reopen non-union. Read about how much icahn made before trump went bankrupt as a creditor and think it can be done again. I don't believe he will give up and he will realize there is opportunity.

I don't believe icahn will or anyone will reopen the taj. The chairman tower might be saved but the rest will probably be demolished . Like the plaza , the lack of maintenance for many years has made it a money pit .

Why hasn't Revel reopened?   Can that part of the boardwalk survive if it does?

I only made it as far north as Resorts yesterday, as usual. It would take major incentive to trek that far north without it and Showboat as a hotel.

nah, there will be a serious problem next year, with everything north of Resorts DEAD or ****tered,,,,,,  the historic STEEL PIER is doomed with the Taj closing.I have not heard much in these parts in new england, where Mohegan Sun (the owner of RESORT AC) is HQ'd ..... I cannot imagine they are happy with the prospect of now having this HUGE gargantuan property next door that is totally vacant and dead, and which used to be directly connected via that bridge on the second floor!     Resorts benefitted quite a bit from Taj (and not so much vice versa.)If I were resorts, and showboat, i would look into possibly USING the CASINO only of the TAJ.....think about it:   Resorts and Showboat already have there hotel operations in tact......now they could offer a greatly expanded casino inventory without the overhead of the other aspects of the TAJ.....surely there must be a way to make this all work out.
