the taj- in better times

Post by notes1 »

I have not been going to casinos as long as some on this site, I enjoy hearing their stories.

pardon me while I reminisce about the taj. would take the 9am shuttle, take off to landing- 55 minutes. knew everyone on the plane, some had been going to AC for decades. we would play the 'money game' on the plane, throw $10/20 into a bag and they would draw the winners seat. a couple of times, I got to AC, already up $700-1200. all the booze anyone wanted and everyone had something in common, loved going to the casino. no waiting for bags, the casino took them to your room, get off the plane, onto the bus and 15 minutes later, there was a separate check in line at the hotel.

the place was always crowded. the buses would arrive non stop, dropping off/picking up folks, I am guessing, mostly from nyc. ate in the chairmans lounge, I am not a foodie, but was good enough for me. we would meet non gaming friends there and they would eat/drink for hours, all comp. speaking of comps, it was hard to spend all the money, bought most of our bedding from the trump store. often had comp show/concert tickets.

take a walk down the boardwalk, see the ocean, visit another casino, get some exercise. never a problem with security, there were plenty of them.

at the end of play, go to your clean room, as are most casinos. wake up, play some more. leave the casino about 4pm, direct to the plane, back home by 6pm. some players, including older folks, never went to sleep.

did I lose money, sure. but, the cost was a couple of hundred ($400-600 on average). not bad for two folks (one not a player) to get a plane ride, stay in a nice place, eat/drink, bring home some merchandise and maybe see a show.

those trips were among the best casino memories I have. and, it was not that long ago.

Yes! ! ! ! They were the good times that I also remember. The shows, parties, We had a great host at the Taj. She would take 2 bus load of players up to NY to see a broadway show. They were the good time when The Donald had it ! ! ! !

Can you be more specific on the exact time frame here?what you describe sounds AWESOME (from a PLAYER's point of view). but a few things jump right out at the informed reader:If YOU were the typical player experience, then this is just one more reason why the TAJ lost so much money in its history and went bankrupt four times (FOUR!) when "THE DONALD" owned it, between 1991 and 2009......your own experience notes1 obviously did NOT result in the casino making much profit off of you (the COSTS associated with that level of service are significant.)Folks, here is the hard, undeniable (translation: its ON RECORD, ad nauseam) truth:   Donald Trump and his financial shennanigans wrecked the TAJ (and the two other properties in his "EMPIRE")......he routinely (four times) would rack up massive debts on his casino properties, pay himself (HIMSELF) huge bonuses and other one off payments, and then when the debt was no longer sustainable, he'd file bankruptcy, brazenly and calculatingly KNOWING the banks and the CITY of AC itself were powerless to NOT give him terms that were favorable lest he simply "WALK AWAY" (similar to what he now threatens to do with the presidential race if the RNC does not allow him to be....."HIM")The cynical (and immoral) argument made earlier that "the DONALD" was simply doing what he LEGALLY can do to make money FOR HIMSELF is precisely what is WRONG with this country......the exploitation by the filthy rich is a far far larger destructive and negative force than anything else currently at work, save a congress that refuses to cut spending in ALL areas of the government.....The truly laughable thing in all of this is that Donald was ALLOWED to repeat this scheme  FOUR (4) times......once was bad enough and twice is understandable given that you want to give someone a second chance....but FOUR TIMES!!!!!????It is worth noting though that on two of the four occasions, DONALD TRUMP essentially went too far and almost RUINED himself as well in the process, only being "SAVED" or bailed out by others (once by his FATHER FRED who magically infused his casinos with 40 million bucks back in 1992 to prevent the state from seizing them....the other time Donald was simply bailed out by the very banks who loaned him money he could not pay back in the first place.....)Trump's TRUMP in all this is that he somehow was allowed to shield just enough of his personal wealth from this nefarious doings to always maintain his "IMAGE"....his net worth has danced around all over the map, and here is the final kicker:  HE SUCKS, ABSOLUTELY sucks as a businessman:   He inherited 200 million dollars when he graduated Wharton, which in today's terms is close to a BILLION dollars.   He is now worth (depending on who you ask) around 1.5 Billion.......so he really actually did NOT do all that much with his massive inheritance. And before someone without a brain chimes in and tries to tell me (OR ANYONE who criticizes Trump) that its not easy doing what he does, I suggest you shut it before you make a fool of yourself again.    I am 100% certain that if I were handed a Billion bucks when i graduated Harvard, I would have turned that into 3 or 4 Billion by now, AT A MINIMUM.

DaBurglar why do you turn a good rememberance thread like this into another "I hate Donald Trump" rant?

I could have substituted CET for the taj, and made a similar post. they were both doing the same thing, offering the same benefits, at the same time. but, of course, CET is not yet closing and I did not take those trips as often, so, my post was about the taj. the post was about my experiences, not another opportunity for you to rant and again lecture us.

I do not know the financial matters of the casinos in the early 2000's. I can only assume that they made their money on volume, instead of needing to grab a bigger share of each players bankroll, as they do now. it was intended to describe how good things were for the players, and it was not that long ago.

I did state that I averaged losing money. if it cost me $500 per trip, for a 30 hour experience, it was a good value for me, and the casino could still make some money. again, business was better, they likely made their money on volume. and, it was a limited number of folks, who arrived via a free plane ride. all the rest, lost money, without the casino paying much of anything. I was a low roller on the plane, many lost much more.

provide your source on T inheriting a $1b, every place I checked, it was listed as $100-200m.

you decided to turn this memory into a political argument, as you do on nearly every thread. did you notice, no one else did that when you started a thread about dogs?

DaBurglar said that Trump inherited 200 million but goes on to say that, in today's terms, it's a billion. Thats like saying that in 1973 my gramma gave me a10th birthday card with $5.00 in it but if she gave me that same birthday card today it would have $100.00 in it. Sorry DaBurglar, your math doesn't compute. Not even in today's terms.....

I wasn't intending on calling you out pal. But, DaBurglar DID say that if he were gifted with a billion bucks upon graduation from Harvard he would have tripled or quadrupled it by now. I STILL say Trump did not inherit a billion dollars like DaBurglar maintains.

not a problem, if I make a mistake I try to correct/admit. not an excuse, but his posts are often so long and rambling, I skip some parts. none the less, if one makes a mistake, better to admit it.

Using DaBurglar's logic, if Trump LOST the 200 million he inherited 2 years after he got it would DaBurglar state that Trump LOST a billion. In today's dollars of course, lol...
