For those who don't follow such things, the person called Fa La La La La.... La la la la chose his pen name as a sort perceived slight to his polar opposite, Rob Dancer.
Claiming all sorts of higher degrees from various schools,Fa La La La La.... La la la la famously proclaimed he had discovered that all video poker machines are not random and that by observing one long enough, he could detect and exploit the patterns.
Perhaps Phil from Florida might consider a name change.
Phil Fa La La La La.... La la la la has a nice ring to it.

When I try to type his name, it isn't allowed. Interesting. Another example of The Man keeping him down, no doubt.

Did he file for bankruptcy in Arizona? And if so, was it caused by video poker? Not saying he did, just asking.

[/quote]Another ignorant post by Billy Ryan where he reads a few lines of a post and starts typing away.  If he could read or understand anything other than his own words, he would see I have never defended Mr. Fa La La La La.... La la la la or his theories.  In fact, it's been quite the opposite.   If he ever comes up with anything noteworthy, I would listen intently.  So far it hasn't happened.  The only thing I have ever defended on this website is the freedom to enjoy video poker purely for the fun of the game without being told it is wrong, ignorant or unintelligent.  Video poker is a kids game stuck into a computer placed in a casino for the specific purpose of making money for the casino's owners and/or stockholders. Some people have attempted to legitimize gambling as a profession by cloaking it in mathematics.   These same people profit from selling the dream that anyone can do the same thing.  When it doesn't work out they say only a chosen few are smart enough to make this happen.  I am not saying it's impossible to make money playing video poker.  I'm saying it is extremely unlikely to do it lifetime.Play the way you want.  Enjoy the experience.  Play within your comfort level and don't expect to win.  If you do, be thankful and stash the money away because losing is right around the corner.

Even now, years later, whenever the Fa La La La La.... La la la la name is mentioned a forum thread goes downhill.

We were attempting to have an open discussion of streaks.  Some people believe discussions on this forum should never be open unless everyone agrees with them.   Streaks are part of the video poker experience.  I'll bet there are new players on this website that would like to talk about them, but are afraid to do so.  If we aren't suppose to talk about Mr. Fa La La La La.... La la la la or his theories, why are his posts still on this website?

IF you believe that cards are dealt random, then there can not be any such things as patterns or hot and cold machines.

Some days I'm content when a machine is lukewarm and just gives a good long days play but the waitress is hot and the drinks are ice cold.

IF you don't believe that cards are dealt random, you certainly shouldn't be playing the machines at all.
What's the rational? "I know I'm being cheated but it's just so much fun?"

Never mind, it's hopeless.

A possible rational (for the player that believed that each card is not equally likely to be dealt from the virtual deck to populate any of the five spots) would be that non-random events can be modeled and the resultant fitted model could be used to predict when to raise or lower bets. With the advent of smart phones, card events can be recorded and any of numerous tests of randomness (such as a the statistical test to determine if a PDF is univariate at a given p-value or not) can be used to determine if this is the case. For a game like deuces wild, if it is found that deuces are less likely to come out of the deck (<1/n where n is the number of undealt cards) then I agree that the player should not play this game even if the likelihood could be modeled. If the game is found to be random, then the law of convergence can be applied meaning the game converges to the house edge, but also that each line of the vp game's paytable also converges to its probability  . . . I believe the machines are random.  I also believe streaks occur.  I do not believe it is possible to profit from them any more than moving up in denomination if the drink girl is wearing red shoes or whatever other goofy criteria you want to use. The difference is I recognize that some players enjoy doing things that mathematics says is counterproductive.  This forum has a history of conflict.  We are here to discuss video poker, not denigrate players because they play different from optimal.  We should point out the consequences of their decisions, but not insult them just to make ourselves feel superior. We should welcome all opinions to this website, including ones we don't agree with.   This website says "Learn" at the top of the heading.  How can anyone learn anything if they are afraid to ask questions or post for fear of being insulted?   Think about it...
