Wonderful Casino. It's also the only place I have ever seen progressive One-Eyed Jacks (nickel denomination).
What casino is this?? Never have I seen 20cent machines before!!  My favorite casino, Casino Fandango in Carson City NV, has a lot of machines with the 20c denomination. Looking at vpfree2.com the Bodines in Carson and the Peppermill in Reno have machines offering 20c as well. Only one casino in Vegas has it though, Jerry's Nugget. Seems like 20c is either really rare or just has such poor paytables that vpfree2 doesn't list them.
20c denom is kinda cool. Never played that denom before. In terms of your system, hey, whatever works for you, makes it exciting,
And keeps you coming back. To me, alternating denominations during play is another way of managing bankroll and wagering. It neither yields more or less luck, it just is what it is. One hits the jackpots on the big bets or they don't. I did something similiar on 9/6 JOB and ended up with the biggest payday yet of my vp career, $8,000 hitting two royals on $1 jacks. Something that would never happen had I kept flat betting quarters. So I'll never put it down.
Cheers!

My preferred dollar machines in town start at $1, so I have less flexibility. I must min bet and take the occasional $5 pot shots at the big money.

Hit royal number 3 this year by beating the 1 in 47 odds, third one in Diamonds. Seems odd. Will have full Feb. report next week as I am playing the next 3 days and as we all know anything can happen.
My
buddy and I have been playing a system when we hit a 3 of a kind we
then double our bet till we lose then back down to 5 coins as we play 10
coin machines.
Playing this way adds excitement to a normally boring game.  As most forum members know, I have been using a similar strategy for years.  I did it for the same reasons you described.   I reasoned if the odds said I was going to lose anyway, I could use a bet changing scheme to overcome negative odds.  In truth, these schemes cost you money long term.I'm not trying to discourage anyone from playing this way.  When you're playing small, no harm done.  If you play big, say dollars or more, you could lose serious money vs. flat betting.  Hitting a big jackpot when you are playing  peanuts is in my opinion one of the most "fun" things you can do in VP.  I've actually hit two W2G royals playing single coin and moving up during a streak.  Eventually this strategy proved to be a loser, but I have to agree it was exciting. The most efficient way to play VP is flat betting positive games.  As positive games are not available to me, my current strategy is to play games as close to 100% as I can get, flat bet as computer perfect as possible, use comps to offset my loses and accept the remaining cost as entry fee.  This may not be the most exciting way to play, but I believe it's the most effective in the long run.Everyone plays video poker for a different reason.  Most recreational players are more concerned with the "experience" of playing VP than wringing out the last few 10th percent of return.  I think what's important is to understand the math behind the strategy so you can make decisions based on cost vs. gain rather than hoping a particular strategy will beat the odds.  What you choose to do after that is your own business.

Finished for the month of February. Great start then fell apart the rest of the month till another royal bailed me out. The Feb 3rd royal put me in the black for the year of $1025. Six trips later I was in the red for the year. Poker is a crazy game. Ups and downs big time. Had something happen today, held a pair of 8s drew a pair, the next hand held a pair of jacks and drew a pair. Can't ever remember  ever having that happen to me. Well  for years I would hit the 4 of a kind and move, I have been learning to sit more the 5 mins. My free play was way down from last month. Could not turn in money from players card, that hurt. Also missed a kiosk promo do to health reasons. That's all I got good luck all chasing the ROYAL!!!Here is my February  report and year to date.     FEB.Trips to casino 15                                              ytd 34Coin in          $80,001                                        ytd $161,996Free play       $265 ( includes kiosk promos)     ytd $1025Royals   2    ($1,600, $800)                               ytd 3St Flush  7                                                         ytd 134 of kinds on Double bet 20                               ytd 41Feb Gain/loss + $460                                         ytd +$335Food vouchers $100                                          ytd $200gas card $20                                                      ytd $60Free rooms used 0                                             ytd 0

8 trips to Borgata so far this year. No royals, but up $250 playing mostly $1.00 9/6 JOB. As far as strange things happening, once years ago at Caesars AC playing $1.00 All American was dealt 4 Kings in the first 4 positions on the board. 2 hands later, the same thing dealt 4 Kings in the first 4 positions. I swear they were in the same order of suits too, but couldn't be sure.

The first 3 trips in March was a killer losing $900 and stung big time. I
had to give up the double betting on the 3 of a kind and flat bet. As
it turned out to be the right move, over next 6 trips I came away with
only a $45 loss. The bleeding stopped. Then the 20th and 21st bagged
royals 4 and 5 on the year. Right now I am on a points mission to make top tier (Diamond) at players club. At that point my free play nearly doubles. So far so good am half way to the  480,000 coin in that I need by July 1st.Below is March and year to date report.Good luck chasing the Royal!     MarchTrips to casino 16                                              ytd 50Coin in          $80,062                                        ytd $242,058Free play       $555 ( includes kiosk promos)     ytd $1560Royals   2    ($1,000 each)                                ytd 5 (2 @$800 2@ $1,000 1 @ $1,600)St Flush  5                                                          ytd 18March Gain/loss + $585                                     ytd +$1130Food vouchers $100                                          ytd $300gas card $40                                                      ytd $100Free rooms used 0                                             ytd 0

Based on your annual coin in to date and dividing by $1.25, I have you at 193,600 hands. This puts you right on and even slightly ahead of schedule w five RFs. Am I accurate? If the RFs are coming in at that rate, you should be at least even on the year. March + $585 YTD +$920 Check!
