I probably should give DW a shot.
The variance of Deuces Wild is about half way between Jacks and DDB.  We like it because the bell rings often and the excitement level is high due to the wild cards.   Expert level strategy is a little complicated.  Fortunately, basic level strategy is not hard to master and is pretty close to the full return.  How you do will depend upon your frequency of quad deuces and royals.  A wild royal (royal with deuces) comes on average about once an hour.   A quad deuce about every 5,000 hands.   Royal frequency is about the same as Jacks.  Deuces strategy is not something you can wing on your own.   Use this website to train or buy a copy of VPW software. We played Jacks and DDB for years before switching the DW.  I can't stand waiting for a quad anymore.  To me DDB is pure torture.  Getting 4 aces for 800 or 2,000 then having the game take it all back is sooooo frustrating.

Once you get into it, it's not too bad.  Obviously you always take the deuces.  The weirdest part for most people is taking a deuce with 2 cards to a straight flush.  At first you will want to keep the aces and high cards, which have no extra value in deuces. The strategy is based on the number of deuces you are dealt.  VPW software is a great help.  Like all training software, it provides computer perfect strategy.  Unlike the rest, it allows you to enter a denomination and gives you the monetary cost of each choice you make.  In deuces you will find many small decisions that have every little effect on your EV.  These all add up of course, but because of the wild cards luck is the overpowering force in my opinion.  Serious players don't play by luck, especially if you are going to risk big money.  I don't consider myself a serious player, but I do my best to play with perfect strategy.Bob Dancer and Liam Daily wrote a great book on DW that is still available at Amazon. It's called "A Winner's Guide to Full Pay Deuces Wild".  It breaks down the strategy into 4 levels; Beginner, Recreational, Basic and Advanced.  In this book they state deuces wild is the most exciting of all the VP games.  I totally agree.

Given that full pay deuces wild is a game available only at a small number of Nevada casinos, the Winner's Guide to NSU Deuces Wild might be a better choice. This latter one includes "pseudo NSU", which is the 98.91% "airport deuces" game that is somewhat more widely available.

There is also a Dancer Daily strategy card available that includes both variants. I acquired one at Huntington Press in Las Vegas, but I'm sure there are other ways to do it without going to Las Vegas.

I agree that deuces wild is a great game to play. I just wish it was more widely available (with a good paytable), and in multiline format.

One thing you do have to be prepared to accept playing deuces wild is that, with the exception of a natural royal flush, there is no premium for good, natural non royal hands such as quads, straight flushes, etc. In the past several weeks, between my wife and myself, I have seen six or seven final hands comprising four aces and a deuce, which, in deuces wild is five aces and is worth 75 or 80 credits. I think we all know what that hand is worth in some other games.

If you don't hit a quad deuce or a royal, you can definitely have a bad day playing deuces wild.  If I'm in the mood for less excitement and more playing time, I'll switch to bonus poker.   Switching between games is not a good idea.  A few years ago I was in Tahoe and was having a bad DW day, so I switched to bonus poker.  You guessed it, I hit two quad deuces in about 30 minutes.

Had something similar happen to me before. Played DDB for a while and wasn't hitting anything, so I switched to JoB and was dealt AA4AA a few hands in.  Cashed out and left lol.

I'm gonna go with BP for now in the casino's and take some time to learn DW before playing it for real money. I think my first step will be to upgrade to Gold on here and use there training mode.

Where I run into trouble is on my multi day trips. Unless I royal, all seem big losers and I haven't seen a royal since fall. I usually hit one about every 3-4 months, so I'm due. On
April 23rd Denver week of VP.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rocky Mountain of losses a mile high is the forecast! You stay, you pay. And this is some stay.

Gold member training mode on VP.com really helped me learn Deuces Wild as well as Deuces Bonus.
