So Tampa HR dropped the hammer themselves! I would treat those machines as radioactive and not go within thirty yards or so. AC is much too competitive a city for such stunts. If AC ever did that with quarters, I would just play the promo and pass the day elsewhere.

So far they have only done this on a few select $5 VP machines.   I think they have been experimenting with this idea for a while.  They activate the button key for a week or so, then I find them locked again.  What's interesting is that the machines in the high limit room have all the buttons working but the odds are lower.   Here's a few single coin jackpots I won playing single coin $5 machines. On the last one I hit the deal button again and hit a wild royal for $625.  Nice day!  If you're going to do this, set a firm cash out limit, lock up the ticket some how and go back to quarters!   Remember  "It's not a win until you get home with it!"It makes me nervous to play single coin $5 games.  If I ever hit a single coin royal, it would be really embarrassing to be handed a W2G for $1,250 instead of $20Gs!  Still, I would shrug my shoulders and walk away $1,250 richer. Some people will never get single coin play.  To me it's not about saving money as much as it is about being able to multiply my bet 5 times with the touch of one key.  It's  a very exciting experience, especially when you hit a good one at max coins.  Even a lousy DW straight flush pays $225!  So far I have not hit a max coin quad deuce for $5K, but I have hit a few wild royals for $625.  Definitely makes your day!  I would like to say that I do not play like this all day.  I take these shots with a $20 bill once in a while and only when I'm playing with house money.  It's the only way I would ever play a $5 game.I play for entertainment.  To me the excitement of hitting that max coin key is exhilarating.  It has nothing to do with math or what's a better play, I just enjoy it.  It that offends some people, so be it.

At the Tampa Hard Rock they disabled the coin select buttons on the $5 video poker machines.  If playing single coin is such a loser, why would they do that?  One day they will do it on the quarter machines as well.  Why?  Because the minimum bet on a penny slot in that casino is 68 cents and they don't want a player gaming the system with a 25 cent bet.  This is a silly argument anyway.  Who cares how someone else plays with their own money?  I'm tired of the video poker "Mommies" on this forum telling us how to play.

Who is the "mommy" who has started seven threads in recent weeks telling people how to play?
I don't recall anyone else starting a single thread on the subject. Just good old Phil from Florida, our village idiot.
No one else feels the need to reinvent the wheel or to constantly justify the indefensible.

To players like Bill Ryan, VP is some kind of magic calculator that produces profit.  Like calculating the trajectory of going to the moon, only he never gets off the ground.  To me VP is a slot machine just like a wheel of fortune.  He spends all his time on this forum calculating ER, telling people what to do and what they are doing wrong.  I just want to have fun and I do.

As you can see in the last photo, I came within one card of hitting two quad deuces in a row,  The second one would have been for $5K!   As it was, I won $3,800 by playing three twenty dollar bills.Look, I understand VP math.  I also understand why some players are obsessed with it.  They're the same as the classic car guys I hang out with.  Some of us want to talk about cam specs and compression ratios and others just want to drive.   I like to play VP, but I could care less about the formulas and theories of how it all works.  Sometimes this puts me in the ditch and other times I win my race.  It's all good.If you're one of the players who likes to grind it out for days on end playing with a few 10ths percent of an edge, great!   I'm not that guy.

This is an oft-repeated misstatement. What you meant is that you could NOT care less.

Phil, assuming your area doesn't have 100-coin DW (if it does then this applies as well), next time you vacation in Reno or Vegas, on a max 100-coin vp machine you can play single coin penny play DW (5 coins required to qualify for the NRF jackpot - 4 or less coins gives 250 per coin) and then max bet 100 coins ($1.00) according to the same criteria/criterium which would trigger you to bet 5 coins on a 5-coin max machine. I've seen 100 coin DW in 2c and 5c denominations also (Reno).

I've never played 100 coin VP, although I've seen a few nice jackpots while people next to me are playing it.   I'm more of a hit and run player these days.   I seem to do much better that way.   I have nothing whatsoever against traditional strategy VP players, it's just not my style.   After 2-3 hours, I get bored and want to do something else.    If my lifestyle depended upon me winning at VP, I could see it.  It doesn't, so I just play the way I feel that day.  I do try to pick the best games possible and I'm proficient with all versions of DW.   I find it the most exciting of all the VP games. We're heading to the Hollywood Hard Rock in the morning for a couple of days of casino fun.   VP will be a big part of it, but I plan to play some slots as well.    I'll take a few pots shots along the way too.  Last trip I played VP all day and lost all day long.  I gave up and hit a slot jackpot giving me back all that I had lost on VP.    Some days are like that.  I realize "luck" is not a viable strategy if you're an AP.  I'm not and don't have any aspirations of ever being one.  I think all gambling is throwing money down the toilet, so to me it doesn't matter how you choose to do it.

Seven quads in two days. What a coincidence that this bounty occurs on CET Seven Stars Weekend.
Make that nine in three days. One each at Caesars and Bally's, both max coin. I lost at both overall, though. A Harrah's hustle put me in the black.
