Yes, that part is correct Bill. The rest or part of your other post I think you have me mixed up with Phil. Losing 50k a year is not difficult even with perfect play. I don't always play 99% machines but my average is being conservative at say 98%. I go to the casino 3 days a week usually overnights. My sessions are long and my average bet is about 3 bucks a hand. In any given week, I play easily 17000 hands or about 5,000 to 6,000 a session. I play at least 600 hands per hour and probably more. My average bet is about 3 bucks a hand. Sometimes dollars and sometimes quarters but the quarter machines allow bets of over 6 bucks a hand. Anyway, 17,000 hands x 3 bucks a hand is 51,000 dollars a week run through the machines. Playing an average 98% game or a loss of 2 percent gives you a weekly loss on those 51,000 bucks cycled through of 1,020 dollars or at least 50k a year.
Edited to add that in one sense, I am very fortunate in that the casino where I play has a few machines that pay over 98% and nearly 99 percent and pay out the correct amount for the Royal with even bet 1. or 800 for one. That option is only found on spin poker machines, but there is nothing saying that you have to play more than one line either when playing spin poker.

But I think what bill is trying to hint at is...it's not wise to lose $50k a year on video poker for a lot of people. But someone whose net worth well into the millions could suffer these losses without too much trouble.

I hope to be at a point in life where I could comfortably lose $50,000 a year for a stretch of years at the casino. But I'm pretty sure the math dork in me still wouldn't like it.

Hey vman. Thanks again for the recent math help. Anyway, what I was referring to with Bill is the part of his post below where he says...aren't you the guy who changes machines after a 20 dollar loss....which of course I'm not. That said, I don't think it is wise to lose 50k a year no matter what your net worth is. The only reason I was able to do it without hurting our long time financial goals is our life style has been lo low key for so many years. Well age is catching up a bit and I have to rethink things and cut back on the vp. Way back. That said, though for the most part I am going to dump my martingdale clone method, I still think there is something to be said for playing just the amount you need to be even when you hit something like quad deuces. One can always cut it off and eat the loss it the bet gets too high. I have looked back at my results on hitting quad deuces and I think this will work well for me. I just have to remember to pick up where I left off on the prior session. My cut off point might be a bet of 5 bucks a hand and my initial bet might be as low as a quarter, since I have those machines at Mohegan that allow pay 800 for one for the Royal for just bet one. The other day, I was playing that way on spin poker bonus deuces wild on the dollar machine. Just playing a buck on the center line on spin poker. I was down 60 bucks or so and just relaxing with my new craft beer I was trying and got a junk hand. I tossed it all and up popped the quad deuces with the Ace good for 400 bucks. I socked away the 400 and decided to play the rest of the original hundred I had put in the machine just in case and play 3 lines at a buck a line. Yeah, most of those just in case deals end up being never in case. Well as usual, in no time I was down to 6 bucks left of the original hundred. I was dealt junk and tossed everything again. Up popped a real Royal on the top line good for the 800 for 1 payout. Cashed in for the day, caught up on some much needed sleep and headed home to give my old tired friend my 98 Saturn a much needed tune up the next day. Anyway, the Saturn seems happy again for now but with 346k on the clock, I better be ready any day to replace her. She has been a good and reliable friend for trips to the casino for 18 years and never stuck me on the highway once. I think I just jinxed her, but we'll see. Edited to add...this line is mainly for Phil. Phil, I ran the Saturn for 100k miles without a tune up. Just to see if it was doable like in the newer cars. you don't even want to see what the spark plugs looked like. There was nothing left of the electrodes. I can't believe it was still firing on all 4 cyl. but it was but just barely.

Didn't Bill Bennett, the attorney and the woman who was a former San Diego mayor lose millions on VP? She was an heir to  a lot of money as I recall, but lost most of it on VP. Sad.

Former San Diego Mayor Maureen O'Connor. No luck of the Irish for that piece of work. Her attorneys claimed that she had a brain tumor. At least she was kind enough to patronize AC casinos on her sprees. Her husband founded Jack in the Box. Thus the JOB preference. She took out second and third mortgages on her La Jolla home to boot.

Let's hope your quads stay inside the box. We don't want that last king to be the first card dealt on the next hand.
