Casinos in the North East?

Post by FloridaPhil »

We are planning our next casino road trip and could use some help.   Here are the casino areas we want to visit on this trip.  New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire.   We are planning to start in Atlantic City, drive to Niagara, up to Montreal and back to Connecticut. We will have 10 days to 2 weeks in all.  We would like to gamble a few hours each day and will be driving no more than 5 hours in a day.  VP odds are not important to us.  The quality of the hotel and the casino are what we are after.  We have been to the Mohegan Sun and enjoyed our stay. Any recommendations would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Hi Phil. Mohegan Sun recently opened its new hotel. It is entirely smoke free. I have stayed there and it is very nice. The rooms are a bit smaller thats all. The main hotel is also being updated and renovated. All the rooms will now have fridge in them and you can request a micro too if you need it. I have also recently stayed at Foxowoods and like the Fox Tower the best. That is the old MGM casino they took over. If you and the Mrs do stay at Mohegan, and we are not on vacation ourselves I will have no trouble getting you guys rooms for a nite or two. Actually, the wife and I went up there for a nice Mother's day brunch, played just a little and I was lucky in that the few minutes I played Joker Kings I caught 5 fives good for several hundred bucks. Mohegan still has plenty of 99 and up machines at the quarter level. Foxwoods has a few 99 machines at the dollar level but not quarter. I find Foxwoods to be much smokier than Mohegan unless you play in the middle of the night or very early in the morning. Of course you guys won't have to worry about food or drink either as long as I am up there when you are. Sounds like a nice trip and a good time of the year to take it. I don't know myself anything about surrounding casinos in other states. These 2 are just so convenient for me I just go here and of course being not far from dad is always a consideration. Glad to see u back on the forum.
Geez; I must be more tired than I thought i was....Thought I was just reading about someone's ....last words
I'm still a Gold member.  I don't post on the strategy forum.  I'm keeping my opinions to myself.  My wife and I have different motivations than most of the players on this forum.   We enjoy travel and entertainment, the gambling aspect of VP is secondary.  I believe we can contribute more to this forum by discussing our casino experiences than anything related to strategy.  I see there are some casinos in Niagra NY.  Has anyone been there?  How about Casino Montreal?  They say they are the largest casino in Canada.

I miss those east coast road trips - Always something to do and see. I hate being stuck in the west.

My wife and I enjoy travel, but we both bore easily.  We also like video poker, so we combine them both.  To us the fun of going to a new casino is entertaining.   Casino resorts are some of the nicest hotels in America.  The room rates are usually low compared to regular hotels, especially if you play in their casinos.  You don't need to gamble a lot of money to stay in these places.  All they want is a consistent player even if that means playing quarters.  The house edge in most of the east coast casinos is usually about 1-2%.  By sticking to VP quarter play, we can hold down our losses to a point where staying at these resorts is a decent deal.  Our goal is to play VP in every State that allows casino gambling.  This fall we are planning to drive a triangle between Atlantic City, Niagara NY and Montreal Canada. We think after labor day in September is when we will go.

In an earlier (Jan 16/17) reply to a question on the same subject, I mentioned Seneca Niagara. The hotel itself is quite nice, and is located within easy walking distance of The Falls.

The Western Door steakhouse and La Cascata, an Italian restaurant, are very nice places to dine.

They have recently added some machines with $1 single line "airport deuces". At the $1 level, then, you could play 98.91% deuces wild, 8/5 bonus poker (99.17%), or full pay pick 'em (99.95%). There is also single line 50c 8/5 bonus poker available. If, as you have suggested, you intend to stick to single line 25c, I think the best you can do there is 7/5 bonus poker.

But, beware!. It is a casino, so the video poker is probably "no longer fair and random".

Borgata is the nicest casino in AC. Summer weekday rates are OK, but weekends are crazy-usually $399 or more.. They have .25 Bonus deuces that you may enjoy . 99.81% if i am right. Drive over to Golden Nugget for the Happy Hour at The Chart House. Starts at 4 PM-get there a few minutes early, it fills up fast. Nice view of the marina good food and drink at a reasonable price.Parking is also free at the Nugget.
