Re: Ban all the single coin players

BillWFord started the thread as a person whose lifelong hobby was probability, but quickly evolved into a former casino employee who claimed no one could beat the casino but poker players and who knew how to deal with card counters.

Reply to alpax’s post also.

Gee, I’m sorry I have made you “ban the single coin players” guys are so distressed by my posts, especially billryan. You really need to lighten up. Your world will not come crashing down because I showed mathematically that betting max coins is not always the best option for some low limit recreational players.

And to the charge that I am not a newbie, depends on your definition of newbie. I was a indeed a casino dealer and I saw lots to people lose at table games. But that doesn’t make me a “non newbie” at Video Poker. I have been playing recreational VP for a fairly short time. I know little about comps, free plays, etc. That, by my definition, makes me a “newbie” at VP. The only thing I claim to be is one that knows mathematical probabilities, including probabilities associated with the returns of VP machines dependent on their paytables.

Again, I am not challenging your “max coin” theories, so lighten up and harass someone else. But then again if it makes you feel good, have at it.

I don't know about that. Your thoughts and philosophies closely match FP. What are the odds?

Only time will tell if you are.

FP's actions over the last 1 1/2 years on the forum has heavily discouraged "BobDancer" from being a full time participant on this forum whether you are aware or not.

Being a recreational player is not an excuse, almost everyone playing video poker is a recreational player. At least the people holding Ace ten suited aren't standing on street corners preaching how it's superior and wise of them. If you short coin, you either cannot afford your losses or don't want to lose and think being cheap is worth it. I can see people playing 5 coins but not 10 max, but nothing less than 5 is justifiable to advocate others do.

I dealt table games and real poker. I knew that the players got credit for the amount they bet. But I didn’t know how much it was worth. That was up to the floors. And frankly I didn’t really care. I knew that VP players got less comps for their play than regular no brainer slots, because their odds are better.     The kind of stuff Bob Dancer and some of the “pros” on this site talk about was something I didn’t really care about. I play quarter VP slot once or twice a month for a few hours (spending time while my wife does the heavier betting) and don’t even have a player’s card because I bet so little. I’ll get one the next time I go.

I assure you I am not FP, whoever that is.
In fact Bob Dancer responded to one of my posts and I was really amazed at his reply. He detailed how he made the 2 million I questioned. It was really enlightening. I’m learning.
I would never do anything to discourage anyone from participating in this forum.

Refer back to the post where I prove that it is better to play one quarter on a 9/5 quarter machine, than 5 nickels (max coins) on a 7/5 nickel machine. 97.08% return versus 96.14% Pure math.
Note. I am talking about a very special case, that of low limit “recreational” players.

Does your wife have a players card? If yes, you can get one and play on her account; that will build up comps and freeplay at a faster pace. You are doing yourself a dis-service by not playing with a players card.

I'm skeptical about separate identities because it's not a normal thing to say you play video poker for recreation. Normal people just say they play video poker, not any different than someone saying they want sex, people don't usually have to indicate sex with a woman or sex with a man, it's just assumed most people want sex with the opposite sex. That's usually how sock puppets get caught when their tendencies cannot be forged and their true persona comes out.
