Beat me up on dollars Reward me on quarters

Post by olds442jetaway »

I had a nice overnight trip at Mohegan Sun Sunday evening and through mid afternoon today. I was playing my usual dollar spin poker machine with the 800 for bet 1 for the Royal but got beat up pretty good. I was alternating between 3 and 5 lines at the dollar level and if nothing is hitting it gets expensive really fast. I was playing Bonus Deuces Wild and a nice pay table at 98.8% Well I busted out my budget by never hitting quad deuces or a Royal and 5 Aces only once in about 8 hours of play. I turned in the the evening but actually it was just before sunrise.
After setting the alarm for only 2 hours of sleep, a nice hot shower etc. I opted for a light breakfast and then figured I would just use my 50 or so free play chat with friends and call it a day. Well, I tried to be good at breakfast like I usually am, but I think the heavy loss worked on my will power so I had bacon, eggs, danish, 3 cups of coffee and just to justify the above a little cup of fresh blueberries and I half grapefruit which I'm not supposed to eat anyway with the meds.
Feeling a bit better and wired from the coffee, I chose to play the lone quarter spin poker machine that also pays 800 for bet 1 for the Royal. Only about a 96 or 97% game though for the Bonus Deuces Wild. I only had 50 bucks in free play and gas money but the machine seemed pretty good so I switched from 3 lines at a quarter a line to 5 lines then all 9 lines. After just a few minutes, I had a nice shot at a Royal in Diamonds and landed 3 Royals good for 2400 quarters. At least that got half my money back and after visiting with a few friends and employees, headed home just before rush hour traffic.
The 2400 would have better in dollars, but the free play would never have lasted long enough to hit what I did on the quarters. Anyway, not a great trip by any means, but at least half my money lost was returned.

Thanks much Phil. I never expected you to take the time to post that. I know the gang likes to see the nice hits in person so thanks again. At least the gang gets to see that these machines do exist and if you do find one, single coin play is a blast. Hee hee.

I'm pretty involved with my latest car project, but I do get on the forum at least once a day.   Keep riding that machine.  I have a feeling it's not going to last.  Our casino had a $5 machine that was hot like that.  I took $4K out of it before they pulled it off the floor.  I'm still looking for it!

It is a good machine, but when you factor in the non hit sessions that most don't bother to post, I guess I'm at best even on it. I still like the feeling of being able to play single coin and not worry about the Royal penalty on it. What is funny though and I have records on this is my biggest lifetime hits by far ore on poor paytable machines. I figured it was just coincidence, but when the same thing happens year after year after year you really do begin to wonder. I give equal if not more play time to 98-99.5 machines yet just as an example my top ten big hits were all on 96-97% games. Here most of them are......two hits last year for 18k each. 6 hits this year and last between 9k and 10 k.....20 hits last year and this over 4k...and many years ago....2 5k hits on the same 97% machine, just 2 months apart. Both were dealt Royals on DDS. I can attribute some of this to the poor table machines having more premium hands to hit, but the biggy for me was my 3 Royalless streaks of ovder 500k hands each that mostly all was played on 99 plus machines. Go figure. I can't. Guess I have to just trust the system and attribute these weird happenings to luck good or bad. Otherwise you make yourself crazy. Just as an aside. My friend's young Marine combat vet son and I recently finished his boat and finally got the hemi up and running correctly and the gearing and cables down just right. No easy task. Got the prop issue resolved too. Its in the water and he and his pals are having a blast with it. The boat motor and trailer were donated by other old time veterans and their families. He is grateful beyond belief. It still bothers him from time to time reliving seeing his friend and Sargent blown away right in front of him. My friends son was a corpsman and sniper for the Marines as well. The Sargent had a young family at home. God bless these guys and gals still over there. They rarely make the news anymore. Its all political crap and I mean that literally.

But, how do you determine what machine is better?

If I could figure that one out One more try....I would be playing them all the time during a lengthy vp cold cycle. I have tried slots over the years. They tend to give you a sugar rush and make you feel good for a very short time. Fun while it lasts though. I'm just not into them and haven't been for years. Some of the graphics today though are just like going to the movies, but not as cheap.
But, how do you determine what machine is better?
Great question.  Slots are just like video poker in that some slots have low variance and others have high variance.  I like low variance slots myself.  Some slots only pay the major jackpot if you play max coins.  It is common for a penny slot to have a max bet that exceeds $5 a hand.   I like slots that pay the same grand jackpot at all size bets.   I also like slots that give free games as a bonus.  To me, the new slots are much more interesting than VP.   If I'm going to be entertained, I want to see something happen other than 5 cards come up.  They also play a lot slower, which cuts your cost to play.   The biggest advantage of slots over VP is the increase in free play and comps.I haven't totally given up on VP.  I'm about 50/50 at present.   I've made most of my bigger hits on slots this year.  That may change.
