How Much Money Do You Take To The Casino?

Post by FloridaPhil »

On our weekly day trips I have been reallocating my daily bankroll lately.   As a Recreational player, daily results mean more to me than long term results.   Because of this I am careful not to take more money than I can recover without getting crazy lucky.   For me that's about 50% of a quarter royal.  Any more than that and I am risking a big loss, which is something I try hard to avoid.  Of course I never gamble with money I can't afford to lose, but that doesn't make me feel any better when I lose it.These days I play half my money on max coin quarter VP and the other half on $5 VP machines and slot machine "pot shots" $20 at a time.   There was a time when I would only take 1,000 coins and play only basic single line VP.   Most days my cost to play this way was minimal.  Of course I had good days and bad.   What I was missing was the excitement of a hand pay.  I realize playing bigger costs more long term, so I limit my bets to $20 a machine and no more than 50% of what I walk in with.   This year I'm ahead on pot shots, so I'm happy.  My strategy is totally based on luck, but it works for me.  If you always play quarter VP, you will never experience a hand pay.  This is not a bad thing as long as you are happy with your decision. It takes discipline to walk away from a machine that just gave you $100.  Most days I hit enough of these to keep from coming home with empty pockets and some days I come home with full pockets.  In my case the key to surviving pot shots is to set my "walk away" limit low and stick to it.  Greed is not a good thing when it comes to gambling.

Day trips for me are $500 but only play 9/6 jacks so it goes a long time.Heading out on a 5 day trip, taking 3k as we are heading to Teds neck of the woods later in the week to 4 Winns in New Buffalo MI. Going to play some Dream Card there so need a nice bankroll for this game. Win or lose its my last vacation of the year. Wife and I are going to enjoy our time off and play some games we love to play.

I think $500 is a good number for a day trip.   Much less and you bust too often.  More than that and you should have called it quits.

I like to have 8OO credits, be that $2OO,$4OO or $8OO. I have a fair amount of gamble in me and I like high variance games. Usually a result is had within an hour, either big win or bust-out.

Playing DDB, there is a lot of ways to hit 8OO credits. If I do hit, I try to leave.

My failure is when I feel I "got robbed" and hit the window for more.

This year my W2g total has gotten too high and have basically "called it" and will stick to quarters.

Too much. I try and stick to a roll of 500 but if that vanishes, the ATM machines are everywhere calling my name. . once in awhile it works out, like the time I hit the ATM then I hit for 18k twice in the same day, but those sessions are as rare as a dealt Royal. Speaking of which I am sort of due for a dealt Royal having gone over a million hands without one. For that reason, I have been playing more than my share of DDS lately hoping against hope that the OWE me. Ha. Good luch with that way of thinking.

I never take my ATM card into the casino.  I gave it to my wife years ago.  It's just too temping to stay a little longer and a little longer, repeat.....   I play for the day's results, so I stash money as I go along.   Something always seems to happen and those little pot shot wins add up.    I occasionally have a total wipe out day, thankfully not too often.  When I flat bet VP, they happened a lot more frequently.  Probably because I play low variance VP games which makes it harder for me to walk out.I walk by the Casino Credit Office once in a while and wonder who goes in there?  I can't imagine borrowing money to gamble.   If I did that I could easily see myself owing them $100K with nothing to show for it.

I used to bring a briefcase full of hundred dollar bills, but my back issues made it a little much to carry so I had to switch it to twenties.

My nutty friend plays 100 dollar machines. He only goes every couple of weeks. He has pretty good discipline and only plays slots. When he wins he quits and is actually doing pretty well this year. You can imagine how many w-2Gs he gets and usually has a slot attendant stationed right near his machine. A couple of months ago, he had a very good day and went home a 50k winner. He went right to the Caddy Dealer on the way home and bought one. Actually got a pretty good deal a 2 year old one for 25k or so. Not my cup of tea, but my cup of tea wouldn't be for too many either as my 98 Saturn just turned 357k miles. . He usually quits for the day when he is ahead 10k or so. I have seen him break even several times. I don't think he is ahead for the year, but has lost less than me playing vp. He plays the old standard slots only the ones with the 3 ovals that give you the jackpot. I forget what they are called. I think they are set to return around 92 percent which isn't bad as slots go. He also like me gets screwed Royally, no pun intended, on our State taxed giving up 6 percent or so of every W-2G issued. Thats Ct. for you!
