Re: my AC trip

Post by DaBurglar »

I'm happy for Doris .....nay, I am ECSTATIC..... that she has been able to accomplish what has been impossible for myself, Jeter and at least a dozen other players (who happen to be mostly diamonds and seven stars) whom both Jeter and myself know at least casually from Harrahs....namely that she has three "winning" visits in a row.    There are no details as to what exactly constitutes this winning, whether she finished up 100 bucks, a thousand or ten thousand, nor is there a reference point as to what her starting bankroll was, etc.   One detail Doris was kind enough to share was that Caesars and Ballys were "unkind" in the midst of her success at Harrahs, so we do not know what that mean for the OVERALL TRIP's final tallly......STILL it's always INSPIRING to hear ANYONE having ANY success at HArrahs AC given that its where I usually end up staying and playing at least part of the time during any visit to AC these days.....I have no way of knowing if (on a typical visit to AC these days) I myself end up playing FAR more, or FAR less than Doris in terms of money and actual hands, especially since these days (since at least 2 years ago) I have curtailed significantly my TOTAL VP activity.....I still get the feeling though that my "Curtailed" activity might exceed doris' activity on a typical 4-5 day stay/stint.NONETHELESS.......we must give credit where credit is due......Doris has achieved great success three trips in a row to HArrahs AC.....in spite of what seems to be (in BOB Dancer's eyes) a prolific lack of "SKILL".....citing that previous post/question published by the forum member  WAITING 4RF:Congrats on having a winning trip. I'm guessing those are 96-97% paytables?
Doris obliged us all with a response that went like this:I couldn’t tell you.all I know is that I do well on them and they have my game of choice. I was under the impression that one of the most BASIC, yet IMPORTANT aspects of being a successful (or even just an AVERAGE) video Poker player was  (1) being able to evaluate and ascertain what the displayed paytable on any given game/machine actually PAYS OUT over time (i.e. the expected return),  followed by  (2)  Trying to keep one's majority of play AWAY from really bad or awful paytables.AGain thia makes Doris success all the more amazing, spectacular, impressive, etc.   that she achieves it apparently by defying the basic tenets set forth by the acknowledged ALL TIME EXPERT, GURU, MASTER MEISTER MEISTER MASTER of Video POKER, the one and only, MR. BOB DANCER

Happy to hear that you killed it at Harrah's Doris.
Having a winning attitude goes a long way in my book.

I did not know you wrote a book, AND on Video Poker no less! .... I am sincerely interested in reading it, where might I find a copy and what's the price tag?  In the meantime, can you elaborate on this piece of strategy/success point, which seems to suggest ALL I need to do my next trip to HArrahs AC is "THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS" and Royals will be a poppin'......I'm already packing for my next foray!!!

Sunday is my Harrah's Shun Day. My preferred bank seems ice cold. My armchair theory is recouping high traffic Saturday outlays. I chose to stay anchored on the boardwalk yesterday. $2,700 coin in was heavy play for me. -$78 at Caesars. Another sad RF chase. I crashed the car and barely crawled out. Two quads spared real ruin.

Must have been the "killed it" that triggered you.
LMAO!!!

As for my book, it's not about Video Poker, and I doubt
you could handle the reality of blood curdling death in a war zone. Perhaps when the movie comes out they will tone it down. I'll be sure and let you know.

Thinking happy thoughts worked for me. I was happy as a clam when my bride and I rode Gary Loveman's Falcon 2000 to Vegas. Long story short. Hit a Royal for $20K upon arrival at Harrah's while thanking our host for arranging the flight. Then I hit Aces w/kicker for $20K at Place Station, and while waiting to get paid my bride hit for $10K. Happiness Works, or is my ability to Improvise, Adapt and Overcome?

I'm familiar with the more quotidian version: Adapt and Survive. $50,000 in an eye blink is overcoming with a vengeance.

[/QUOTE]You lost me here.....but you keep coming back to this apparent theme in your life that somehow, because you are a marine and survived some sort of warzone experience that this confers some sort of superiority (over whom or what I have no idea....)I'm pretty sure when you were born you did not choose WHERE or to WHOM you were born (just like the rest of us.)  I'm positive when you were 7 years old sometime during the 1950s you did not utter the statement ( "When I grow up 12-13 years from now I want to be in the Vietnam war.....!" )   Nonetheless, at some point in time you CHOSE to join a military outfit known for breaking down and dehumanizing "normal" people from society and building them back up into professional killers.    Along the way you were inculcated with such snappy slogans as Improvise, Adapt and Overcome......you may not realize this but, by and large, Improvising Adapting and Overcoming is something MOST people do (or will do, to varying degrees) throughout their lives, until they croak....Take for instance......ME.   Now I did not, while in my mothers womb, request that I be born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI).  I did not choose to have 2 dozen fractures before age 18, over two dozen surgical procedures (including a full spinal fusion, from mid thoracic all the way to the end of the Lumbar region, for scoliosis which is a common adjunct to O.I.)   I wanted very much the choice to be out raising hell, playing ball, getting in fights etc  but instead I had to IMPROVISE ADAPT and OVERCOME starting about Age three (my earliest recollection of breaking a bone, being put in the hospital etc.) and continuing right up thru the next 47 years to NOW......if I had NOT been blessed with this affliction, I am 100% positive I would have followed my Father (and his two brothers) and pursued some sort of military career, just as you chose to do......alas, I had to Improv.....ahhhhg, nevermind.    If it had not been for OI  I never would have excelled academically, never would have graduated from Harvard, a whole lot of NEVERS.    Whatever "gory, bloody" events you witnessed I am at least somewhat certain that I too have witnessed a lot of bloody gross things, primarily on my own person, throughout my lifetime as the result of what I did NOT choose to be born with......hence, this does NOT make me in anyway better, more wise, more insightful, more "special" etc.    Who and what I am is simply the product of circumstances beyond my control that I learned from and adapted to......the same, in general, goes for YOU and just about everyone else.

It's been so bad that I'm shutting down operations after a winning hour.
