Players are not dreaming of $50 wins.------------------------------------------------------Nope. I was Net +$45 before the HL room fueled fantasy seized me. I'm sane enough to avoid high variance games. That will never be my problem. Double digit loss day, which is at least manageable. I have set up calendar events on my phone. Their title is AC followed by a BR. The first three of the month are barely enough to travel there. The fourth is $100. So losses will be tamped way down even if I stray to dollars.

Several times a semester, Mr Dancer asks this question?
What's the difference between praying in church and praying in a casino?
Some people get it. Then you have your doubting fhil's who can't help seeing the world but through their own jaundiced eyes.
While we can't expect an old dog to learn new tricks, one would expect them to at least show a modicum of common sense.

I agree with Mr. Dancer's statements about 95% of the time.   Learning the differences between game odds and using computer perfect play strategy has helped me greatly.  I do have serious doubts about some of his claims.  I believe it's nearly impossible for anyone to play VP 100% computer perfect all the time and I do not agree betting bigger to gain better odds is productive.  However, if my bankroll was being supplemented by VP book sales, software sales and casino consulting fees, it might make sense especially if bigger wins fueled bigger sales of my products and services. The 95% where we do agree is enough to make me follow the majority of his advice.  There was a time when I thought I could do better with my own methods.  Since I had no choice but to play negative games, I believed I needed a different approach to beat the odds.  While I was working on this, I taught my wife to play Mr. Dancer's way.   Not knowing any different, she plugged along grinding it out playing max coin quarters.  She stuck with quarter play and never dreamed of playing any bigger.  She never took a  "Pot Shot" or squandered a quarter jackpot playing dollars.   To her a $250 quad deuce is just as exciting as a royal.  Her phone is full of quarter quad deuce pictures.  Her royals show up on time and they are all at max coins.  Each time she hits one she stashes the money away and continues where she left off.  She plays VP out of her purse and now has over $12K in her VP bankroll.  This taught me discipline is one of the most important components of winning video poker play.  I believe a lousy player with good money management skills and discipline will do better long term than a knowledgeable "thrill seeker".  I will not be swimming against the tide any longer.  I am convinced.  Every time I think about switching denominations, I will remember my past losses and not dream about my potential wins.  Let the games begin.

Agreed. The tide is too strong and has buried many a fine swimmer. That's a good prevention device. Visualize past losses when thinking of switching denomination. It's an abomination. I'm not diving into those waters again. Bill seems to love The Who. Another of their hits was "Won't Be Fooled Again." Before my time, but no excuse these days.

Resolution in trash already. Good news is that I was +$40 net on my trip without obsessing over a quad. As Phil said, rare hand. If you don't get one in an hour and are up regardless, it's just fine. A win is a win. I don't need the souvenir phone Photo.

Unfortunately, no strategy can prevent all losses. In VP you must lose some days so you can win others. No one wins all the time, no even the casino. I don't know who said that first. So true..

The Limited Play strategy usually works. Play the FP and maybe $200 coin in. Disregard comp accrual. Take winnings, enjoy city. Repeat weekly. The Greeks were right. Moderation in all things.

I still can't win beyond that $200 coin in number. I did break even at Caesars on $960 coin in. But only after a Caesars beating.
