Quarter Deuces

Post by FloridaPhil »

So the plan for this year is to play single line quarter Deuces Wild exclusively.  All my free play will be played in slots.  I've established a $300 per day bankroll for this project.  The quarter games at the Florida Hard Rock Casinos are 97.58% in Tampa and 96.77% in Hollywood.  Hollywood has two machines left with quarter 98.9%, but they are almost always taken.  From my experience, this should earn me about $25 a day in free play and retain my Elite comp status which allows me to have two free rooms a week plus credit for food and drinks.I will be playing max coins according to my VPW software with a few exceptions.  First, I will keep all non deuce Ace high royal hands (1-4 cent cost).  If I'm going to pay to play quarters, I want to see more royals.  Second, I will also not concern myself with any hand with a penalty of less than 1 cent.   I will play slow and check every hand twice.  My goal is to hold my annual losses to 5% or less.  I feel this is an acceptable fee to enjoy the game and the casino experience.   My first test trip will be today.  It's raining and 40 degrees at our house.  That's about as bad as it gets in Central Florida, so I'm off to Tampa.  I'll be posting my results on this forum as I go.  I believe the majority of my losses have been self inflicted.  I have a strong tendency to move up in denomination or go for pot shots in the high limit room.  Both are big long term losers.  I am hoping this log will help keep me on track.  It may also be helpful to other quarter players who wish to compare results.  I'll do my best not to backslide or go on tilt.Let the games begin.

I could have been having an okay time if I had patience for the slow drip of quarter VP. But I had to try for the quick score. Backsliding and tilting are always there to destroy me also.

Do you plan to play until you lose your $300 every day, or is there a stop amount on being ahead or a limited number of hands to secure the winnings for that day? If you simply have a budget of $300 / day with no stop plan, then you will most likely have a return of zero and lose around $110,000 this year. That does sounds like fun though if you can afford those kind of losses.I would suggest a max of 300 / day and also a time limit, after which you pocket the winnings and never add them to a future day's bankroll. Then you should at least lose in a more affordable fashion. I do hope that's not 300 a day for 365 days in the year though. That sounds like a lot of gambling on such machines. You really can't expect that to end well.I know you say you treat it as cost of entertainment, which of course is fine. But to keep your cost down, your plan needs a little more detail and discipline. To know where you should expect to end up, you'll need to know roughly how many hands per day you will average too.

If history shows us anything, it's that the OP sticks to a plan about as well as he sticks to facts.

Plans and facts are what the casinos WANT you to stick to. The secret to winning is to trust your gut. Or is that the secret to indigestion... I forget.

I dunno. I like to think I stick with facts and I know I stick to my plans.
Plan is to make a low five figure revenue source off eight to ten hours a week and have total income roughly double my expenses.
Starting to explore buying a fifteen machine establishment. Why milk the cow when you can buy the diary? I am amazed how many sheeple happily accept 7-5 JOB in return for watching a big screen tv and free drinks.

Things went well today.  I took $300 to the casino and got there about 9:45 AM. The first thing I did was check my free play.  I had $50 and my wife had $20.  I played my free play in my favorite Gold Pays Firecracker slot at $3.40 a hand.   I got lucky and hit the bonus rounds right away.  I cashed out a $100 ticket and put it in my wallet.  I played my wife's free play and cashed out another $100 ticket.  Nice way to start off.I played the rest of the day at max coin (5) quarter single line Deuces Wild.  I played $20 at a time and cashed out each time the game got to $50 and put the white ticket in my wallet.  At 2:30 in the afternoon I was out of cash.  I never hit a quad deuce or a royal.  I did have quite a few white tickets.  I counted my tickets and I had $500 so I walked out up $200 for the day.  Surprisingly, I had enough gambling for the day and wasn't tempted to stay longer.I believe this to be an excellent result.  Not playing my wins back into the machine worked for me today.  No wasted pot shots and all my slot play was done with free play.  I can see how switching denominations causes problems.   Time will tell if I can stick to quarter play.  If I want to play bigger I will need to accept a potentially bigger cost to play VP plus deal with W2Gs.  For the time being, quarters are just fine.
