This happened to me recently.

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

Yeah, man. All together, now: Regression to the mean/norm. It's called statistics. Fascinating subject. Always good to brush up!

I appreciate Gronbog.   He explains well and never goes to the dark side.   What everyone here should understand is my wife and I play VP purely as entertainment.  This doesn't change the math, but it does change your attitude.  VP is suppose to be fun.  What fun is playing a game where everything is predetermined by math?  I suppose if we had access to positive games things would be easier.  We could sit confidently in our chairs knowing that the game was going to eventually pay off and we would always be winners.   If we didn't win, who would we blame then?We prefer to believe everyone has a chance of being a long term winner.    We look forward to our VP road trips and try to plan one every few months.  Between Florida, Biloxi, AC, Colorado and Vegas, we stay pretty busy.  If we played like fools we would not be able to enjoy this in retirement.   We don't claim to live nice lifestyles off the game, but we aren't paying anyone's bills either. These casinos welcome us with open arms.  We play quarter VP to limit our losses and the offers still come.  Playing quarter VP with a 1-2% casino advantage is not that expensive if you factor in all the free vacations we take and the fun we have together.  Many people we meet don't understand how we can spend so much time in a casino.  They probably think we have a gambling problem and are expecting to see our names in the legal ads.  We think this is hilarious.  You can enjoy casino gambling without playing positive games if you stick with quarter VP and apply basic AP principles. I am an expert in making mistakes that cost me money.  I can tell a player exactly what not to do.  Will they take my advice?  I doubt it.   This was a long drawn out learning process for me and I am at peace with the way I play now.   If anyone is interested, I will be happy to post a list of all my mistakes so they don't have to learn like I did.  I often worry that a fellow retiree will read what we write here and conclude that VP is easy or that results are guaranteed.  It does not take great intellect to pick the right five buttons in a VP game.  What it takes is consistent and determined willpower to stick to a proven plan and ignore all the temptations the casino will throw at you.  The most formidable enemy you have in VP is you!I enjoy posting on this forum as long as we have fellow members who want to discuss VP in all it's forms, not pound everyone else into their way of thinking.   I believe we are making progress.

Phil, If you are going to stick with BP on your trip to AC, the Borgata's paytables aren't good. The best .25 BP in AC are the progressive triple plays at Bally's, if they are still there. 8/5 with a progressive royal on all three lines, reset at 1,000 on bottom, 1,1000 on middle and 1,200 on top line.

Thanks for the info.   I am comfortable playing 7/5 Bonus Poker in quarters.  Anything better would be great.   I will play 98.9% deuces in quarters as well.  Playing bigger than quarters or taking on more variance just to gain more ER is not something I would consider on this trip. This will be our first trip back to AC in many years.  The last time I was there was for a convention.  I got food poisoning in a Cherry Hill restaurant and thought I was going to die.  Hopefully things will be better this time.   This is a scouting vacation to see if we like playing in AC.   We will be checking out all the casinos.  If we like what we see, we may put AC on our regular visit list.

98.9% Bonus deuces for .25, .50 and dollars on game kings by the buffet at Borgata. 9/6 JOB still at the bar last time I was there. Too much smoke, sticky buttons etc. at the bar.

Thanks.   I know all about bar machines.   The best VP at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi is at the bar.  Why do they do that?   I guess so you'll get so drunk you can't play accurately.  Doesn't work with me as I don't drink.   When I play at the bar I give the bartender a dollar every 30 minutes to keep him happy.

I'll try to catch up to you that week. Have unused comps and will treat you and your wife to lunch or dinner depending on my schedule that week.

Just to keep the wackiness rolling....4 consecutive Full Houses today on 9/6 quarter job. Better than a single quad. Only hit one today in 4 hours of play. Hit 6 last night in 45 minutes of play. That's a record for me. All were 5's to kings. Usually, the quads I hit on job are aces, quad deuces, or 2's, 3's, or 4's and often with kickers. In reality though, I think I just pay more attention when those come in. One more wacky thing...I had 9 chances at a Royal in 8 hours of play between last night and this morning. All misses of course, but I think that many chances is also a record for me. The suits were mixed, but on 7 of the 9 chances I needed a Jack. On two of the following hands of the nine misses, the jack was the first card dealt on following hand. All meaningless of course, but makes your mind wonder.

Edited to add just a little comedy here....My session last night and today was kind of in the toilet. Speaking of which, just before I flushed the toilet a couple of hours ago, I thought to myself and I don't know why....I haven't replaced that bead chain in 5 or 6 years now. Wouldn't you know that very flush the bead chain broke. Ran over to Lowes...They don't even carry that type of chain anymore....Ran to Home Depot and bought 2. Got it in no problem. Just needed a little dexterity here and there. Now if it only were that simple to get my vp game working like it should that easily. Dexterity in vp has never made me a long term winner. Now I know where the term Royal Flush comes from.
