Promotion that went bad

Post by wildman49 »

Played in this Sunday promo here is what it says on the web site.Sundays, May 6, 13, 20 & 27

Earn 3x the points on Slots, Table Games and Bingo on Sundays in May
from 12PM-9PM. Earned payback points will not show on account until the
following Sunday. The same thing is in our mailer. Now I played the 6th and did 57,000 points. We can down load this as free play 1000 points is $1, so 57k times 3 is 171k points or $171 in free play. The following Sunday I see it on my card. I don't play it save it for a rainy day. I then go for a promo middle of the week and the 171k is gone! WTF!I went to players club and they tell me you have to play it off the Sunday it shows on your card. There is mailers sitting there I hand one to her and she reads it and she says your right it don't say anything about that. I say get someone out here from the back to put the points back on my card. Someone comes out and pretty much blow me off and gave me a card to call the Marketing Director. What would you have done? The rest of the story tomorrow night.

Ahh wildman, you should have said: "The rest of the story next Sunday night." You know that we wouldn't have been able to wait.....

I don't know what I would have done.

Ok Ted here you go.So I am HOT when I leave players club and head to the Host office. I bent my host ear but knew it might be out of his hands. He told me to let him know what I find out from the Marketing Director. As I head home I call and leave voice mail with Marketing Director. Since there is nothing on there web site or flyer about use it or lose it promo that I should get my points back. The next afternoon I get a call from the head Host. He says they looked into what happened and will put the points back on my card. Wonderful!Later that day I got to thinking about the low roller. Say they did 5k in points worth 15k the next Sunday. $15 to some is a lot to others not much. Well its Mothers day, family gatherings and all and they don't make it to the casino. They might think the same as me. Next trip play it off. Nope its gone. Not the best promo without good info ahead of it. Going to have to play 20 questions with players club from now on when looking at a promo to play!

Year's ago when the Florida casinos first put in Vegas slots, they sent out a mailer offering 3X comp points on a certain day.    I thought this was a good deal, so I played that day.  I walked up to a video poker machine and started to play.  Right away I noticed the comp points were accruing at the regular rate.  I went to the player's club and asked why this was so.  After 10 minutes they found a manager who explained that video poker wasn't eligible for point multipliers.   I pulled out my mailer and asked him to show me where it said that.  I was told the casino has the right to make the rules and that if I wanted to play there I had to accept their rules.  The following mailer and all the mailers that followed had the video poker disclaimer printed at the bottom. The casino can do anything they want.  They can make up rules on the fly.  They can change the pay tables at a whim.  They can even throw you out for playing too well.   The only power you have is to vote with your wallet.

What casino was this?

I've lost track of all such discrepancies I have encountered in my lifetime involving casinos & what they offer vs. what you actually receive. On more than a few instances, when the dollar value was low ( like under 25 bucks) I just didn't pursue it.... I value peace of mind and tranquility too much now to allow myself to get in a lather over such things....

However, in the original posters case, where it's 171 bucks, that I would certainly pursue with him and vigor. Glad it worked out for you in the end...they should have added an extra 25-30 bucks for the annoyance.

I'm glad it worked out for you wildman.

Several years ago Harrah's Joliet, IL sent out a mass mailer with a cash offer to about 19,000 people. Printed on it was instructions to present the coupon at the cash cage on a certain date (happened to be a Saturday) to redeem. Every single coupon was for $525.00.

Oopsie said Harrah's, before the coupon date. We goofed and it was only supposed to go out to certain players and the printer screwed up. The Illinois Gaming Board then said tough toenails, everyone who presents a coupon will get the $525.00 or else.

Everyone who redeemed the coupon got their dough. I redeemed mine and promptly walked out.

No charitable write off for Harrah's either. Pink slip city.

In most jurisdictions, that is not the case at all. As noted in the post about Harrahs Joliet above, sometimes casinos are required by the regulatory authority to pay for their mistakes.
