Beginning of the End?

Post by Kshman »

First post to the forum:I play in Northern/Southern Nevada and was alarmed at the recent vpfree2.com reports:Atlantis: 13 100 play 9/6 machines gone.Palms: 12 multi-play machines gone. This all in the last 24 hours of reports. What is going on? This seems unusually aggressive. The Atlantis also recently eliminated all their 100%+ machines. I will be there next week. If this is the case I will tell my host that I am leaving. I play for break even vacations at about $50K coin-in a day. But there is no way I'm willing to lose that much playing 8/5 Bonus Poker. Are we spoiled in Northern Nevada playing Full Play 100 line machines? Why are the casino getting rid of the 50-100 play machines? Thanks everyone.

I know that multi-play games are not 100%+. I am just worried about the sudden downgrade or disappearance (in the last 3 months) of all 100%+ games & 9/6 JoB multi-line games in the 6-7 casinos I play at. I do not play 100%+ games because the stakes are too low for me at $1 single-line (if you are lucky to find them) or .25 single line.Hopefully the Palms is just in the process of changing the games. Right now it looks like they have 7 9/6 JoB machines that max out at $1 single line. I play for comps and I do not wish to play 8 hours a day at $5/hand as opposed to 2-3 hours a day at $25-$50/hand. There is a big difference between losing (in theory) around $500 per 100K coin-in vs. $900/1000 (9/6 JoB vs. 8/5 BP). I usually have an edge and do not lose that much, but I do not care much because the comps are worth more to me than the lost money.I am wondering if there are any Northern Nevada players that know what is going on. The trend is happening at several casinos owned by different companies. Thanks for the response.

Pay schedules have been deteriorating consistently for more than a decade. Perhaps several games you like and know about were hit all at once, but this has been a gradual process that I expect will continue and not some all-at-once nightmare. The South Point still has several games that seem to fit your criteria.             5c Fifty Play 9/6 JoB             25c Ten Play 9/6 DDB Ultimate X             25c, 50c, $1 Triple Play, Five Play, Ten Play Quick Quads in three 99.55% versions             $1 Spin Poker 9/6 JoB             25c Five Play Multi Strike 9/6 JoB             25c, 50c, $1 Single line, Triple Play, Five Play, Ten Play 9/6 BPD             25c, 50c, $1 Triple Play Five Play 9/5 SDBThis is a decent selection, but there were far more good games there not so long ago. It's a gradual thing. You may need to re-think your goals or the way you go about it. There are still many opportunities around, but fewer than before, and not the same ones that were here a few years ago.

So in other words it's getting worse with no bottom in site, thanks Bob.

With people like Florida Phil revealing all the secrets of VP, what do you expect the casinos to do?
Obviously, this is an over-reaction to the single coin play Phil so brilliantly brought to the public.
I remeber Phil asking how a casino would handle people playing his fantastic method of brilliantly avoiding getting those pesky full pay Royals.
Now, we know.

I appreciate the response Bob. I have to admit that it feels like an all-at-once nightmare for me since every property I play at either has eliminated the high stakes multi-line games or have made VP coin-in $100-$150 per tier credit. Time to find a new hobby.I would play at the South Point if I was local, but I am not willing to fly to Vegas to play there. A property that books Chubby Checker, Tony Orlando, and the Kingston Trio is not my idea of a vacation hot spot.

1) If you would like to be more successful at gaming, pick spots because of the games they offer, not the entertainment.
2) In the relatively short time I've been attempting this, the most important thing I find is being flexible.

Gaming condition change constantly and you need to adapt to them.

Simple illustration.

I had gotten one of my neighbors to join me at a local casino on occasion. Wednesdays were Senior Days and with a little play you got a free buffet. They recently changed it to Tuesday. She went on a Wednesday, played and didn't get a free buffet. Now she is boycotting the place. Instead of adapting and going on Tuesday, she doesn't go at all and gets no more free lunches.

I get what you are saying. I was joking about those acts (although I am under 40 and saw both Tony and the Kingston Trio in the 1980s as a kid). It is possible to be successful at VP while only playing at places that offer premium amenities/entertainment if you are not trying to make a living at it (not on the strip though). My net winnings last year were about $11,000 after about 20-25 days of play. I play for higher stakes than most and had a good (lucky) year. But after 3 years of playing perfectly 99% of the time I have yet to lose more than $4000 in one year (I only play about 30 days a year for higher stakes). Not bad. I usually will get more than that in free play every month between 2-3 casinos. But I play with an edge most of the time. I just do not want to sit at a machine for 8 hours a day grinding it out. I think where people sometimes get into trouble is when they only play with an edge on multi-point days. Many casinos are going to put you on the no mail/no slot club card fast track when you are running 50K-100K through the machines a day doing that. For quarter/dollar players it probably does not matter much.I'm sure you know all this. Thanks for the response.

I am not really aware of the benefits of cycling 100K a day. I know of them in theory but the most I've ever done in a day was $30,000 on quarter ten play. I found myself getting sloppy at about $22,000 and had to really push the rest.
