Joker Kings

Post by olds442jetaway »

I like this game, but so few on the forum evidently play it or even like the game. I think this could be one reason why....On the 17/7 Joker kings game, the Royal pays 940 for one. That means hitting a Royal with 5 quarters bet triggers a W-2G. I wish the industry would just make the Royal pay 800 for one and increase the payout on a straight flush to compensate for the difference. I guess the chances of them doing just that are about 0. However, if they did this, I bet they could entice some 9/6 job players away from that game and get them to play Joker Kings. That would give the casinos a full percentage point and more extra return too over 9/6 job.

This particular pay schedule has more of its return wrapped up in the over-paying royal. With optimal strategy, the frequency of hitting a royal is greater than a lot of non-wild games paying 800 for 1. The strategy may not seem that straightforward to many. And some just may not visualize wild card combinations the way they can envision the non-wild counterparts. I don't think it should be for fear of W-2Gs for single line quarters. 940 x 5 x $0.25 calculates to be $1175, under the $1200 limit. Certainly the outcomes with multipliers or multiple lines might be different, but that would generally require more than 5 quarters.

It currently pays 98.44% with expert play. If the royal dropped from 940 to 800 and the straight flush was increased from 50 to 55, the EV would be 98.39%. If it was moved to 56, the EV would be 98.45%. I suppose some might be tempted to switch to the game by a 6 coin increase per quarter in the straight flush, but I would wonder if that would offset the defectors that would flee due to the 140 for 1 drop in the royal. It is often difficult to gauge individual preferences.

I see a lot of South Florida players that play Joker Poker.  Evidently, it's very popular in the Northeast and South Florida has a lot of North East visitors.  I am thinking about trying the game myself.   If I had access to a game without a royal bonus, I would playing single coin with a sliding scale betting strategy like Olds uses.  It's a very entertaining and exciting way to play VP.

With all the JKs on this site, you'd think it would be more popular.

Exactly right New2vp. I should have done the math myself. I know what happened. The last one I hit on spin poker had another smaller hit on another line pushing my payout to 1200. I do particularly well with this game on the Multi Strike game especially if I play just lines 1 and 2. There is one machine at Mohegan Sun where I can still get 17/7 for nickels. Gotta love that. I have been bailed out many times on this game when behind by hitting straight flushes or even wild royals when the real royal is hiding in the bushes.

FAA....so true..me being one of them. Phil, one fun way to play Joker Kings is to play 5 quarters until you have lost a net of 250 quarters. Then increase your bet to 6 hoping for a straight flush. The downside is a W2G will be triggered if it hits at bet 6. I have lots of fun with this on nickels.

I messed around with Joker Kings on my VPW software last evening.  It's a cool game kind of like Jacks or Better with a wild card.  I can see a straight flush is a big deal.  One thing I don't understand.  When you are dealt a Joker without a royal flush draw, kings or aces, the software sometimes tells you to hold the joker and a lone small card with it.  Why is this?

I like this game, but so few on the forum evidently play it or even like the game. I think this could be one reason why....

Casino Arizona had this game some time back, but removed it. I played it a lot, lot, lot. Over a two month period I hit 9, $2. Royals, then it disappeared and I don't know why. The game was only found on a 20 machine bank of IGT's that the Keno ploppers basically monopolized 24/7 and only contained 2 VP games. Joker Kings and JOB.

I may have told this before, but while waiting to get paid on one of the Royals, several of the Keno Witches gave me crap about betting $10 a hand. One in particular was pretty rude about it and it just so happened that a machine between us became available. So I moved over and asked her if she'd like me to show her how to play Keno. With the challenge accepted, I found the Super Keno game she was playing, bumped it up to the $2 Denom, loaded $100, copied her 7 spot and hit the max coin button. The first number out gave me the 4 times multiplier, the other six followed shortly thereafter. Needless to say, she left pretty upset. Due to a shift change it took over and hour and a half to get paid on both my jackpots.

Love the keno story lol! Wish they would separate VP and keno games. They are not fun to play around
