A little luck goes a long way! update 7/10/18

I know many like to take pot shots when they are up on the day. For me when I am playing for recreation, When I get down I like to try to pot shot my way out of a hole. My wife and I hit the casino Sunday, was 3x points day. With this and my monthly slot club I am at 1% pay back from the casino that day. I tend to drift off the 99.5% and higher single line games and play some triple play DW at a 99% return math says. It's the highest % multi hand poker we have. Not this day, them triple DW tore me up. I find myself down $600 playing single line 9/6 jacks and 8/5 BP and the DW triple.I head to my bail out game  bonus poker deluxe. I go to the $2 level and going to play $100 and hope for the 400 coin quad hit. My bankroll for the over night trip was $1500. Well as luck would have it I get dealt a Straight Flush! Now its back to single line and more triple DW. This did not go well a second time as I am down $700 before I know it. Them 4 deuces would not show up. After 6 times 3 ducks off the deal that day I could not pull one quad off. 18 chances in all.Back to BPDX. Going to run another $100 thru and hope for some luck. Low and behold lucky hand 13 sees trip 5's off the deal, and the 5 of hearts shows up! 800 clams! Now up $200 for the day.No more triple DW! I got on single line and find a hot machine, head to bed up $600.My mother always told me "better to be lucky then good" well in VP you need both to beat the casino. Good luck chasing the royal!

Nice!!   My personal experience with "pot shooting" my way out of a loss has been spotty.   When it works, it's a beautiful thing.   A year or so ago I found myself down about $800 on the first day of a three day trip.  I was totally disgusted.  I walked over to the $5 machines and played single coin CS.  I put in one $20 bill.  What do I see but a quad deuce for $1,000!!    I cashed out and walked over to a my favorite firecracker slot.  I put in another $20 and played $3.60 a hand.   Up pops a screen full of ladies for $700!  A little luck goes long way...

I like $2 DDB Quick Quads for a "get me out of the hole" pot-shot. Any quad pays $520, $800 for 2-4s. With QQ, quads are somewhat frequent.

WTG...I play my pot shots the same way. When down not up. Many times I get bailed out only to most times give it back.

Wildman, you said you're in central Michigan right? If you're willing to drive down to Toledo, you can "pot shot" $5 9/6 BDX. One machine in high limit has this and a few other very near 100% games including 35/8/5 BP, NSUD and 9/7 TDB. That GameKing even has $5 "3:2" blackjack.

Nice hits Wildman. I'm too much of a chicken to "pot shot" my way out of a negative situation. Only stick to what I know well and if it hits it hits. More often than not, I've broke even including RFB. I'll take even vs. going home a sourpuss.

The best way to avoid having to "pot shot" your way out of a negative situation is to not let the situation go that far.  Unfortunately, in VP that's easier said than done.  I tell myself "Leave the casino, walk to the car and get out of here!"   That little voice in my head whispers "Four Aces is coming, all you have to do is wait for it."   I stay longer.   I panic and up my bet.  I lose more.   I look at the ATM machine and it's calling me over.   Fortunately, I didn't bring my card.  I search the pockets of my coat.   No more money anywhere...The casino has beat me again.  On the drive home, I wonder why I am doing this to myself.  In three days I will be back full of hope waiting for a jackpot that is suppose to appear in so many hands.   If it wasn't so much fun, we would call it torture.

Phil, Sorry to hear you have a gambling problem. You should stay out of the casinos.

More often than not, I've broke even including RFB. I'll take even vs. going home a sourpuss. Pot Shots are fun when they work. I don't put much bankroll into them, it's just luck of the RNG for the few hands I am willing to play. I don't pot shot every trip EDC, like you I do just take my lumps on most bad days and head home.Wife and I had a 4th of July VIP trip yesterday. Wife hit a $1200 pot in the high limit room. She went in to use the restroom, saw people all over  waiting for hand pays. She popped in a 100 and the 3rd $10 pull it hit. Me it was down hill all night long. Took a $900 beating playing 5 bucks a hand. Went to the room and watched the fireworks. So for the week I had $300 in free play beat em for $600  last Sunday, give it back last night an even week so far on 34k coin in. Heading there tomorrow for lunch and play looking for another royal!
