Airfare as comps

Post by JoB Hero »

If I’m planning to play 2,400 hands a day of NSUD 99.73% my expected loss should be $12,000 x .9973 = -32.4. If flights and hotel are 370$ comp 370/4 nights = 92.5

Can I take my 92.5 comp - 34.4 expected loss for 60.01$?

This is before slot club .02% and .01% cash back as well as monthly promotions.

2,400 hands with coin-in of $12,000 implies 50 cents a hand. Are you playing 10 cent single line? Otherwise I don't see how the math works. Maybe penny Ten Play? Usually games of this denomination do not include good pay schedules like NSU.

Whether or not to include air fare and rooms in your EV depends on you. I personally do not include such things as they are "paper" reimbursements. I didn't spend the money for the room or airfare and they didn't give me anything back. And I wouldn't even have those paper reimbursements if I weren't in a casino town.

Still, folks use all sorts of justification to prove a point. If that floats your boat, go ahead

The only reason it would matter is if you wanted to tell yourself or others that you were an advantage player playing with an edge. If that's important to you for some reason, knock yourself out. I would not consider this a winning play.

But if this is something you really like doing and find it a relaxing vacation for $32 a day, it's a lot cheaper than most other vacations. And as low roller video poker plays go, this one is a lot better (rather, a lot less bad) than many, many others.

Are you sure your decimal point isn't misplaced in the 0.01% cash back. That means for every $1,000 you gamble, they give you back 10 cents. Not inconceivable, but 0.1% (where they give you $1 back for $1,000 gambled) is far more common.

If they give you 0.1% cash back, it's now up to 99.83%, which cuts your daily expense by 1/3. If the food comps are 0.2%, and you find their food reasonably priced and of a quality you would pay retail for, then that's as good as cash. ($12,000 per day coin-in would earn $24 in food comps. Most people spend more than that daily to eat --- although some people eat on less.)

You say there are monthly promotions. Do any of them involve cash or free play --- because that counts as real money. If they are just of the sort of play $5,000 coin-in and we'll give you a logo coffee cup and a hat, then I would not count any of that. Many players have a garage-full of casino crap and adding more to a worthless stash doesn't improve your life.

But if it's something like "play $50,000 coin-in in August and we'll give you a $200 luggage set AND YOU NEED A NEW LUGGAGE SET or maybe it's suitable for a Christmas present for somebody you would normally pay real cash money for on a gift, well that's something else. But if this luggage set goes into the garage with the rest of the casino crap, that should tell you what it's really worth to you.

If they fly you on a charter jet, that's one thing. If they book you on a commercial flight and you're awarded frequent flyer miles, then that's worth something.

If they will fly two of you for free even though only one of you is a player (or maybe both of you play on one card), then that's worth something. A vacation for $32 a day was pretty sweet. TWO vacations for $32 a day is that much sweeter. Keep in mind that if your spouse is not a player, he/she will get quite bored with always going to Laughlin, or wherever. Yes there are a few interesting things to do on your first and second visit. But you run out of options fast.

Absolutely my decimal points were off as well as my math. 2400 hands a day x 5$ a hand = 12,000$ x 4 days of play 48,000 sounds more like it. I had a friend correct my simple math...

I do agree with the “not as bad” deal (for now the best deal that I know of) But I do consider this a winning play for vacations/casual play only instead of paying 600$+ for hotels and flights to get to Vegas.

I would never consider myself an AP. I however I do consider my self a losing player however a slightly more educated recreational gambler. Nothing more. I only post numbers and percentages for newcomers to follow not for show boating.

Thank you for your post. I hope it cleared things up for people if they were mislead.

Disingenuous. For someone who is obsessed with Florida Phil or others who post so-called nonsense that *might* mislead novice readers, then this post falls right in there.

Pot meet kettle.

If you are standing at the M Casino picking up your "free" M logo fanny pack or other "casino crap", as we see you do, then this post is a mystery. Unless, of course, that "worthless stash" is heading to Cousin Vinny's house as a lovely re-gift at the holidays.

As you say, "knock yourself out."

Just to clear things up I have never seen physically items part of the monthly promotions. Only cash and free play. No fanny packs, coffee mugs or golf clubs...
