Here are real world numbers. Drop $30,000 coin in as a new member at Casino A and you will get a mailing for $300 free play a week for two months.
Drop $25,000 at Casino B and you get $75 cash back and mailings of $100 in free play per week for two months.
Some casino mailings are quarterly. A single good day of $20,000 coin in will give you thirteen weeks of solid free play.
Sometimes, not playing at all will result in higher mailings. Mr. Dancer goes into details about this in one of his columns.
Play a near even game( 99.%) but get hundreds of dollars in free play each week and an aspiring pro has a solid bedrock for his career.
Can someone show up in Vegas and turn a thousand dollars into a million playing only video poker? Possibly, but the chances would be astronomical.
Can someone use a $20,000 BR to generate $20,000 in cash back and free play a year? Absolutely. With the proper research and dedication.
Some casinos treat multipliers differently. Casino A has 3X points on Tuesday but only counts the multiplier for comps, not mailings. Casino B has 2X points on Tuesday and uses the multiplier when generating mailers. Casino C gives a free buffet with X amount of play.
What percent of people who play VP on Tuesday even give this the slightest thought when choosing to play. Many who do will jump on free buffet option.
VP pros in Vegas have hundreds of other places besides casinos to exploit. Most bars offer horrible payouts but all sorts of promos. Timbers is a local chain of pubs that just ran a coupon for July. Play and lose $20 get $20 in free play. A month long free roll. Longhorns recently ran two coupons, $10 BJ match play and $10 free play. You could use one of each every day. I value match plays at about half face and free play at 90%. So the LH is basically giving a person $14 a day for walking in the door. Not really worth my time to hit it every day, but when two other casinos are giving $15 in free play once a week, it's viable to take a hour and grab the $41 and a free lunch.
How much do professional VP players make as of today?

Just to be clear, I don't live in Vegas.FloridaPhil wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 12:37 pmThis is why there is so much disparity of opinion on the potential for VP profit. If all the games and all the comps in the world were equal, the skill of the player would determine the results. That is not the case. A skillful player in Vegas is going to have better results than the same player in West Wendover NV.

We all have different reasons for playing VP. Obviously some members see VP as a way to make money and that's fine with me. Olds plays VP more than anyone I have ever met and he plays because he loves the game. He also plays at one of the nicest casinos in America. I play to have something enjoyable to do away from my office. My local casino is a nice place to hang out whether I make money or not.
If you are going to attempt to make real money playing the game, I believe you are going to spend more time scouting opportunities than playing the game. Today's opportunity may not be there tomorrow. You may decide to move across the country where the opportunities are more plentiful. You are going to have good days and bad. If you want to make a lot of money, the bad days are going to be horrible. I for one do not want to subject myself to all this just so I can make some more money. I'm happy enough living in my home in Florida throwing quarters at the Hard Rock.
We are all good at something or we wouldn't be sitting on this forum. We should try to understand the feelings of others and why they have the opinions they do. If you try as hard as you can and you lose money long term, you conclude VP is a loser. If you are fortunate enough to win, you think everyone should be able to. Neither conclusion is accurate.

Olds , you have so many good points in your post that i lost count . That cheap beer again i guess. As a GM veteran of 40 years i can relate to your dedication to the super QRD of saturn. But the fact is that bad decisions by Roger Smith such as Saturn, Hummer, and a long list of other cash burning debacles caused the bankruptcy. I digress, sorry folks.
You have, in my opinion, the discipline to take what the game gives you, then take what the casino gives you, and have a good time. Wrong?

Making such a statement suggests that either you have had very limited exposure to the varied casino scene, or your math ability is questionable.
Almost all of the casinos I play at have slot clubs + mailers + promotions that total significantly greater than 0.2%.

You even can’t calculate 2 / 47 correctly, your math ability is more questionable. Check the other post you made. You joined a week ago and are calling people idiots. I think you signed up here because you have an agenda. If you can't debate people properly you will not get any respect around here.

Hophoofer, namecalling such as “idiot” is not permitted. You are picking a fight with someone who has a long track record of respectful discourse here. If this continues, your forum privileges will be suspended.

I suppose I created some of the furor with my wisecrack about questionable math ability. It didn't really add anything to the discussion and was perhaps better left unsaid.
My apologies.
