i think you are right Phil, if i do play triple play joker poker and hit 140k thats awsome but that means i could play 5-10years and no jackpot, or i could play for 3 years and return 110k of my money, but to shoot for a goal that high is not reasonable or worth it, ive hit royals those aren't too far away, i am trying to figure out which is better of the two, jacks or better or bonus poker 99.54 or 99.25 either night can produce more 4 aces vs flushes/full house so will my bankroll roll notice either difference?
Personally, I prefer Bonus Poker over Jacks or Better. The problem I have with Jacks is the only real jackpot is a royal flush and they don't happen often enough to satisfy me. Granted 400 coins for 4 aces is not huge, but it does give me a reward of some kind. I could play DDB or TDB, but the variance is too great for my taste.

Part of the confusion about my posts comes from the fact that I am not a gambler. I used to be and all it ever got me was pain and depression. I can enjoy VP just as well for free on this website as at the casino. The casino is a different experience on this own. The idea that I am going there to win money is not my expectation. All I want when I go to the casino is a nice day out and to play as long as possible.

If it makes you feel better to stop defining yourself as a gambler, fine. I just want to be a disciplined gambler, with no trip exceeding double digits in cost.

I think you can do this FAA. You know what it takes to be disciplined and just something you have to work on. I assume you live close to the casinos so stopping a night early when you are up or when you have lost a set amount. I am aware that you know all this and it is easier said than done. But the ball is in your court. I have confidence in you!

You didn't seem to have a problem with 8/5 DDB when you hit AWAK twice in a ~week earlier this year...

ROTF! He is rather fond of the undeniable canard, and I paraphrase, "Are you giving it back?" Remember a former Georgia Governor admitting to lust in his heart? Nothing like a reformed drunk at a party!

Case, if only all days were like today. Casino spigots were seemingly on Payout for hours. Three quads in an hour of play spread out over 105 minutes. Throwing in a $25 craps hit, +$60. But my second quad cost $1 of prior winnings and my third $40. Quit while ahead rule ignored.

DDB is the greatest VP game in the world when you are winning. It's the worst game when you are losing, which is the majority of the time. Sitting at a machine all day playing Bonus Poker is about as mild as it gets in VP. Playing 8/5 DDB all day is overpaying for your jackpots. Switching back and forth between Bonus Poker and DDB is gambling. I do my gambling in small doses. It doesn't often pay off. When it does, it's wonderful.

I do not consider myself a gambler because I do not believe I can beat the casino. I play VP knowing their will be a cost for my entertainment. The cheapest was to play the games I have to play is to play them as small as possible. This often becomes boring. To spice up my entertainment, I occasionally switch games and/or denominations. I am always aware that doing this comes with a cost. As long as I can control the cost, it works as expected.

Playing video poker is always a balance between cost and reward. As long as you control your expectations the game is enjoyable. It's when your expectations drive the cost that the trouble begins.

All this goes out the window if you believe you can beat the casino. I don't, so I am able to enjoy video poker on my terms not the casino's.

Hmm. I know there's no way in hell I can beat the casino. No way, no how. But I consider myself a gambler. Maybe I should ease up and just go with "rec enthusiast." You raise a great point that troubles me: overpaying. I had three quads yesterday. My bankroll decreased with the last two. Quad two cost me a dollar. Quad three cost forty dollars. And it was the mother lode. BP Aces. I'd lost $120 on the machine and was on single coin.

Phil in one sentence you write that you do your gambling in small doses and two sentences later you say that you do not consider yourself to be a gambler?

Let's just say I do not need to gamble in order to enjoy video poker. Most of my video poker these days is played on this website for free. When I go to the casino for the day, I enjoy the drive, I listen to the music, I like watching people have a good time, I eat lunch and walk around. If I get the urge to gamble, I reach into my wallet and pull out a $20. I can do anything with that $20 I want. When that's over, I'm cured. If I want to play VP, I pick a game and play as cheap and as long as possible. I don't take much money with me, so I know in advance what my maximum loss will be.

I didn't always play this way. I used to believe I could beat the casino. There were times when I couldn't wait to get back. After all these years, I learned the casino is not there to pay my bills. It's there to pay theirs with my money. I made the conscious decision to cut their pay. They aren't happy about it, so they don't send me as many offers. It took me a long time to rid myself of the "I can beat the casino affliction" and I don't want to go through it all over again.
